I'll be coming on Sogang's language program in the summer and have a question for anyone who's done this program. Are there any breaks during the term, like a long weekend? I plan to travel around Korea after the program ends and also go up to Yanbian in China, but if it's possible I'd like to go to Japan for a few days in July or August to visit some old friends.

What's the schedule like?

If you mean you will be working at an SLP English school, you should get the whole first week of August off (9-day holiday), then a three day weekend August 13-15th. There are three day weekends in September and October, then no more holidays until New Years (yes, nothing for Christmas).

Some SLP schools have made their teachers work on scheduled holidays though (like friends of mine this past weekend), so it really depends on the management.

I think s/he means s/he'll be studying Korean at Sogang University, since the OP keeps talking about the "program" rather than the "contract."

Yeah, to clarify, I'll be going to Korea to study, not to work.

I don't know the schedule for their summer semester, but I can tell you that they do take off for national holidays, plus major Christian holidays as they're a Catholic school.

There's probably a long weekend in there somewhere, with independence day in July and constitution day in August.

Independance day is on a Sunday, though August 15th is on a monday so you get one long weekend.
