I just bought the new MiniMoto MS400 phone, but am having some trouble with the MP3 aspect of it. I got the driver downloaded and installed fine, but when I connect to my PC I don't see another drive connected as I do when I connect my wife's mp3 player or an USB drive.
I figured it might have something to do with needing to use the software from Melon which I then installed, but a user id is required. Okay I register and click the checkbox for ܱ but it tells me I already have an id - How, is beyond me as I have never registered on any Korean websites - other than cyworld. Well the password recovery utility doesn't recognize ܱ numbers and there is no contact form on the web site.
Any ideas - will use my wifes id later, if I have to but she is kind of busy right now and can't help me out.
Also I can't seem to find any utility on the net for converting mp3 to dcf
the big things to overcome here:
- cannot browse the phones disk drive
- need to convert my mp3's to dcf format
All help is greatly appreciated. |

Sounds like my problem I have with my LG phone... although I didn't get as far as you. I really don't care to "register" so they can keep track of what songs I download, etc...
Do you have a Mini-SD card? I just bought a card reader for my computer and put songs on that way.
I play .mp3, save movies on my Mini-SD card, and watch them too. |

so your solution is to buy the external card and a reader, drop mp3 files on there and listen? But they are not in the dcf format... I don't want to spend more money only to find out it still doesn't work. |

That's what I'm saying, yes. But you might have to convert the files to something else first. There's no way of knowing if you aren't sure. It'd set you back about 25,000 for the card reader.
I googled it, and read that some other people have the same problem as you.
Not that this would fit your situation, but have you tried changing the .mp3 files to .dcf in name only? Then save them on the card and try? Also, my LG phone saves video in it's funky proprietary .kg3 format, but when I look at the file with a video editing program, it treats it as an .mp4 video file. I brought .mp4 files into my phone, and guess what... they work! No .k3g extension.
Here is some stuff others wrote about your same problem. Would the last post on there be helpful?

I have a hunch that your phone file could very well be an .AAC MP4 audio file or an AMR file with a fancy new extension to confuse people. That is what the last poster of the above link said, although I think he could improve the quality if he knew what he was doing. Also, that's what's up with my .kg3 extension on my LG handphone... it's merely an .mp4 file. I use this handy converter to screw with the video. It took about 3 hours of work to figure out what settings worked and what didn't. And yes, I needed the card reader: www.mpegable.com
I had a friend who is an contract engineer for Samsung. She designs the phones, and told me that her 5 megapixel phone she designed wasn't supposed to work with .mp3 files, but they left a way to "work-around" if you could figure it out. That is essentially what was done with my LG phone, too (although it plays .mp3s if you load them on the card like I did). I suspect that phone companies are trying to cover their butts from lawsuits by the music companies, as well as cash in on music download charges... that's why they are changing the file format extensions and fiddling with different formats... but in reality, you can play the files if you figure out how.
They're covering their butts by not allowing .mp3s to play, but they know full well how to work around it. They also know (and probably count on the fact) that their customers will eventually figure it out and spread the news of how to do it. |

Derrek,
I'll try that out the next time I get to yongsan and by the expansion card for hte phone
I finally got the software to connect to my phone - didn't need the melon software mentioned in the first post. Basically I was having a conflict with zone alarm so I have to turn that off before using the sync software.
However a new problem has cropped up. menus are in ??? ??? ??? not English and not Korean. I checked the non-unicode settings on the language tab and it is set to Korean and working as nate-on menus are all in Korean. I installed & uninstalled 3 times same problem - rebooting each time. I also changed the setting to English and reinstalled - same problem. I even created a new user on my computer with Korean language menus and tried English for non-unicode as well as Korean and still no go.
The menus are all screwy and I was foolishly just pushing buttons and completed deleted my address book!

I have the same problem, because my computer is in English. I got the photo transfer to work, but gave up on .mp3. My girlfriend tried it, and was confused because the website said one thing and the phone manual said another about what program to download to make it work. I have a student with the same phone as mine, and she gave up because there was a problem with the software -- probably the same issue as me. I'm sure if I were Korean or wanted to take the time, the LG store would sort it out, but I haven't bothered. The Card Reader does everything i need and doesn't tell LG what I'm doing with my phone.
Try going to a PC Bang and installing the software in some computer in the corner where the owner doesn't see *laugh*.
By the way, I bought a 1 gig expansion card for 139,000 I think. I got it on the lower ground floor of that building that has most of the computer stuff in it. Ask around to different places, of course. |

Oh, and just a note:
My phone can transfer files between the card and the internal memory. Maybe yours can too. I'm curious about the AMR and ACC file format thing, and will download a converter to convert mp3 audio to that. I can't use my mp3 files as rings, which bugs me. Maybe one of those files will work.
You might need to get a converter different than that mpegable converter I have to convert your audio.
Oh, and to make the video work, you must figure out the exact size dimensions of the video, as well as the file format it needs (probably mp4, but maybe not). Use that Mpegable program I linked in a post above.
I'd start with the motorola auto-setting it has, and then modify that in different ways. Like I said, I had to play around for 2 or 3 hours, but it worked. To figure out the dimensions of your video, use your phone cam to record its own file, then transfer that onto the removable card. Then look at the files properties, or bring it into a video editing program, to learn the exact dimensions your phone uses. Mine are 166x144, and the audio works at 44100 and 128kps (the audio can be set differently).
If you set the total frame rate of your video to 15 or 20, you can get better video quality with a lower total bitrate. I think I set my total bitrate (audio + video) to around 200-250. Much above that and my phone freaks. |

I got the Micro SD card for my phone and put MP3's on it. Still no go. I took it to SK Telecom and then to a Motorola repair facility. Both of them told me the same thing. All the songs have to be converted to DCF in order to play. Doesn't matter if it plays off the phone or on the Memory card.
f-ing SK Telecom and their proprietary BS. |

All you have to do is download the Melon software and there's an option to convert mp3s to dcf files. After you convert the files to dcf format simply find a computer with an SD reader. Put your mini SD card in the SD card and open it up on your computer. Put your nely converted dcf files in the folder for mp3s.
I have the Motorola Krzr phone and have about 60-70 songs on my phone. |

Melon will only let me convert 1 file at a time. Is there an option or something in melon that will let me convert songs in batches? |

i've been looking for an answer to the mp3-dcf problem for my ex's motorola va76r...i've read several times that the answer lies in either the melon program or the nokia toolkit. Since i can't understand a stitch of korean I decided to try nokia and there's nothing on my computer after the download except uninstall (very confused) so i'm back to asking someone to explain the melon thing to me!! all i see when i follow the link is a button (thankfully in english) marked download melon player is that what i need? i would think a player would just play music not transfer music into different files. what am i missing??
oh, and the problem for the phone isn't just listening to music his phone will play mp3's the trouble is it will only take dcf ringtunes and he can't afford to constantly download ringtunes!
any help would be greatly appreciated! |
