Really well. Around here in Ulsan they are coming out nicely.

If you are thinking about heading out to Gyeongju to see them, it'll be really busy this weekend and for a few more to come.

Just starting to come in now at my school. They aren't in full bloom. The hill up my school has the trees on each side and I would guess that about 25% of them are blooming. I would reccommend that you wait until next weekend.

Camelina,

A cherry in one place looks an awfully lot like a cherry tree in another place.

When you go to Jinhae, be prepared for massive crowds and heavy traffic. On the peak weekend, the cars are backed up all the way up Changboksan to the tunnel. Most likely you'll arrive in Masan and take a bus over to Jinhae. Be prepared for a slow ride.

When you get to Jinhae there are cherry trees all along the city streets, just like other streets in other cities. The trees are not big and not close together. Most people get on buses again and take a tour of the Navy Academy. It's in a pretty location. Nothing spectaular as far as cherry trees go. There is one street on the navy base that is pretty. A mix of cherry trees and evergreens. You can't get there from the Academy. You have to leave the base and walk a ways...10 blocks?...

There is an area near the navy base where the streets are blocked off and the merchants are selling the same cheap jack trash you can find anywhere, but you get to pay more because its a festival. How many back scratchers, hammers and caps does one person need? There are a few games to play. Shoot the balloon, toss the ring...

Occassionally there are a couple of merchants from India or South America. One year there was a group of Bolivian musicians.

Your best bet is to stay in Masan or Changwon.

It's a pretty much over-rated hullaballoo about not much of anything. But the crowds are fun if you like that sort of thing.

Enjoy.

I live just outside of Daegu. About 30 mins from Kyungju. My friend told me that she is going there on Saturday but heard that the cherry blossoms aren't in full bloom. However, with a few more hot days like yesterday and they should come out fairly quickly.

I went to Jinhae yesterday...it is gorgeous.

However, the traffic today is nightmarish...forget about it, going into the Armin tunnel from Changwon, it is quicker walking.

The cherries are booming in Jeonchon, Mun-gyeong-shi, right in the center of Korea. This weekend is their festival -last night there was drumming and such on a stage installed in the middle of the small river that runs through town. More festivities tonight.
