Personally, I love teaching Kindy. If you are animated, than you shouldnt have a problem. It takes a certain amount of energy to keep them all on task, but some of the best classes i've had, are when the students can't keep any focus, and you can sit with them and be silly.

Routine is important... 5-10 minutes at the most on tasks. Lots of drawing and explaining your picture. I like to tell them silly knock knock jokes. And they make them up on the spot actually... (really dumb ones, but funny cuz they dont make any sense)

The best part of Kindy for me is the fact that they pick up skills so quickly. and they have really good retention. I find them easier to teach than middle schoolers as they dont have the attitude and really have fun in english school...

Some kindy's Don't speak at all when they arrive, and within a few weeks, they can string a sentence or 2 together. and also, the HUGS..... being so far from family, thats a great thing in the morning to have all the love from these smiling faces. YEAH!

It also doesnt hurt if you are good at making up games. Kindy kids LOVE games, I like doing math ones too, they must get math drills early in life cause some of them are sharp!! And they are really fun to watch when they get really competitive and start shooting dirty looks across the room at each other. KINDY IS SO FUN.....

I have one kindy class every morning M-F for 90 minutes. It is by far, my favorite class. I taught in the states before I came to Korea and can't imagine what a challenge this would be for someone who has no experience with them. You just have fun, be patient, keep them involved at all times, and set some rules they can understand that have a reward attached to them at the end of class.

I don't mind teaching kindie, but to teach kindie properly you need to have a lot of energy and preparation. Maybe I'm wrong and some other kindie teachers here have great jobs, but my mental impression of kindie hagwons in Korea is that the young children are walking $$$$'s rather than young children who need lots of energy and attention. When I was teaching kindie, the school pandered to parents who paid too much money and had absolute ridiculous expectations of their children. The school would also soak up the children for their marketing purposes all they could. The regular elementary children were not the money-makers and so were given very low priority.

Basically, I felt like I was part of scam and hated my job. For me to teach kindie again in Korea, it would have to be quite an exceptional place.

I have said, time and time again, that I love kindy.

Tonight I had a class, 2 boys who are 6th graders, and one girl who is first year middle school. The boys are fantastic, polite and they love to learn (i'm lucky with them) The girl is super rude, and has a mouth like a toilet. Now, I don't speak Korean, but I sure know when someone is cursing. (we all know what 18 is) Tonight I threw her out, and had a grand old conversation with the 2 boys.

Spoke to the director, and made the girl say she is sorry. Of corse that dosen't mean she will be half way decent next time. The director knows she is rude. But her parents pay for her to come here. Fine with me, let them pay, but she will not stay in my room.

Now with kindy, they may be loud, a little "bad", but they are fun. Most of them learn so fast. And they smile, laugh, and are happy. I like to be happy.

Yep, i'm on the floor playing games, and I have to know a whole slew of songs, but so what? They make me smile.
