Easier said than done. Now that my degree is missing, I pretty much have to return to Canada before trying to get another job.

That is, Unless I can figure out a way for my university to send me a new one.

Last time I checked, they were not too keen on the idea. They wanted $50.00 + postage and handling, and a long winded explanation as to why I needed another copy.

That would also mean I would need a secure address here in Korea that they could mail it to. I sure wouldn't trust sending it to my current boss's
school.


I do have enough to get home, but I don't have any set plan for after that. I was hoping to have a bit more in the bank before I had to go home.


I do feel like I have had enough of Korea for a while.

If you want to stay in K land bite the bullet, and send 50 bucks and get a new degree and some transcripts while you're at it.

Also, get your boss to put in writing how much he owes you, demand that he do it. Once you have this paper take it along to immigration with a helpful new employer and get your old visa cancelled. It's possible, I've seen it done. Make an official complaint to the MOL. Demand your wages and don't listen to any sob stories. Get a spine and walk unless you like working as a slave. If you have any charm whatsoever you won't get any problems from the big I. Like you , they are sick of employers that make their life more difficult.

Glad to hear things are looking somewhat up. I had about my worst week in Korea this week. Got robbed of my wallet and phone on Monday. Stumbled upon the first public wife-beater I've seen Wednesday night slapping his woman all around the street. Made up a heap of plans and got a bunch of new material to improve my advanced class and then got told that no, on second thought, the director wants us to continue teaching it the wrong way. General complete break-down of discipline at our hogwan after a few Korean teachers got replaced.

I feel a lot less sorry for myself after reading this thread. Hopefully with the docs and stuff you stand a fighting chance now.

I never ever thought that me telling others of my troubles might help anyone. But if it has, it wasn't me.

Actually the saddest part of the whole mess is, other than money, it was a decent place to work. I liked the other teachers, the students and the boss (except for not getting paid).

I know he has money problems and I don't wish to make things worse for him, but I can't afford to not get paid either.

I just want to end this and move on.

I have to take some responsability for my situation, as I should have been more assertive right from the first time that my pay was late.

I'm just not very good at this kind of thing. Probably someone who has a stronger, more forceful character would have done OK here.

Where I come from, if you work, you get paid automatically. You don't have to go around begging just to recieve your wages, and then you aren't made to feel guilty just for asking.
