I have no idea and had not even noticed the change. Could it be though, that GS stands for Gold star? LG used to be Gold Star a long time ago before they were LG.

The notice in my previous posts has two "explanations" of the letters GS. I don't understand the Korean, but giving two different answers to a simple question doesn't help much in my view.

As for those suggesting GS is for Goldstar, maybe you're right. But the old Goldstar was an electronics company when it joined the LG group, right? But now the electronics part of the business remains under the LG brand. Also, Goldstar, though obviously two words put together, is a single-word name.

Anyway, they'd better have a good reason for that "S" as it's shifting the comany name out of bounds of correct Hangeulization and many Koreans' pronunciation ability.

My brother in-law is a senior manager at LG and has just gone over to GS.
One side is electronics, the other construction and home shopping etc.

He's a busy guy these days
