Serious windows problems.

This is bumming me out big style. Recently I've been fixing up my old computer to give to my girlfriend as a present.

Anyway, I reinstalled windows and all had it working fine on the internet, updated the drivers.

The problem occurs when I try and install windows service pack 4. I lose the internet connection and the computer just hangs! I had to force a reset and when it switches back on all I get is a damn blue screen after it says that windows is booting. It doesn't boot but just stays on that damn blue screen.

Any suggestions folks?

Well, I'm guessing it's Windows 200 then....SP4 and all. Is it legit? Try disconnecting from the net when you run SP4. How long have you been waiting? It may take a while. For XP, SP2 took some people an hour, depending on if they chose to archive the old files so it could be uninstalled.

If you do get any options for this with Win200, don't bother. Easier just to format again if it goes south than wait so long.

Also, are you doing a network install or is the SP on the hard drive? If it's on the drive, then yes, disconnect the net before running it. If it's a network install, just download it and then run it locally.

That's exactly the thought I had. I've downloaded SP4 and I'm going to give it a try tonight.

Thanks for confirming what I suspect is the issue. I'll let you know how I get on.
