Well, the great thing about it is, you don't have to rely on the big bad Americans and their rotten old FDA if you prefer. You can instead read this rather konglishy article on blocked anti-MSG laws in New South Wales, Aus., in what I gather is a Korean woman's magazine. The headline gleefully intones: Proposed NSW Regulations for the labelling of MSG in restaurants over-turned by the NSW Legislative Council in 2002!
How would customers react when they see We use MSG in our dishes printed rinted on a restaurant menu? It is like saying please do not enter our restaurant because we use MSG, which is harmful to your health.
These nonsensical regulations almost became mandatory law in NSW two years ago, but they were blocked in the Upper House (Legislative Council) by an effective campaign by Dr. Peter Wong, a member of the Unity Party.
(Multiculturalism 1, Uppity Whites 0) (and no, I'm not being serious there, so don't even think about it)
Dr. Wong contacted the then Health Minister, Craig Knowles, about the anti-MSG policy which could be traced directly back to the Premier, Bob Carr, who insisted that the use of MSG in restaurants must be labelled. Dr Wong claimed that the MSG labelling regulations were discriminatory because the only restaurants that would be severely disadvantaged by the acts would be the Chinese, Viet and Korean restaurants.
Oh, but it goes on!
MSG = Harmful to humans???
If MSG is really harmful to humans, why did the NSW Legislative Council reject the MSG labelling regulations in 2002?
Yeah, by gawd, answer me that one, will ya! (hmm.... this article's really getting sucky... Oh well. Onward, ever onward we plod...)
In conclusion, MSG is not harmful to humans. Like Korean Ginseng must be used in appropriate quantities in functional foods, MSG should also be used in appropriate quantities.
The public perception that MSG causes many adverse effects is certainly not borne out of scientific research. Well-documented clinical studies have failed to confirm adverse health effects from ingestion of MSG." said Dr. Connie Katelaris, the Head of Allergy Unit of Westmead Hospital.
So now you can take it from Eddie and Dr. Connie!
Many kinds of preservatives and colouring agents are more harmful than MSG to be regulated by NSW. (Not sure about the syntax there, but still, hmmm!) The amount of glutamate in a restaurant meal is less than it is in Vegemite, a well-known favourite food.
And there you have it. Well, I did anyway. And my tongue said: "Wowwwowowwowieee!! : It's like...it's like I'm tasting MORE!! gimme more, gimme gimme gimme!!"

Nice. I'm going to try my best not to crib that one. |

I know exactly how you feel. All these worries and endless arguments and counter-arguments. Sometimes I think it would be a whole lot simpler if we'd just arranged to be strangled at birth. |

The way I view it eat what you want, drink what you want and stop worrying so much. Or follow the Edgellskiuk diet of cigarettes and alchohol, you will not live long but at least you will be relaxed.

it's not MSG you have to be worried about, it's sodium chloride- that stuff is in practically everything you eat- I even know some places where they have piles of it lying around on the tables, just in case they didn't add enough to the food when they were cooking.
Disgusting

Do not forget that clear colourless liquid on the table if you ingest too much of that it will kill you also. Then some doctor tells you to drink 8 glasses a day of this lethal stuff.
The only food I would recommend everyone avoids is sea cucumber, not that its too bad for health, but because it tastes like pants and has the texture of a greenie. |

That does it. I'm going back to my diet of pure grain alcohol and rainwater. |

| MSG is for the museum, candy companies now are adding a compound which tells your tongue it's sweet. You guessed it, it aint sugar |
In Japan they add a South American flavor enhancer called "Stevia" to sports drinks to sweeten the deal. One used to be able to buy Stevia-enhanced "Pocari Sweat" here in Korea, but I haven't seen it in ages. Anyway, it's like 800 million times sweeter than anything on earth, including your mom, who I just got off of.
