Great! It is so about time. I have a student that is exactly my hieght and weight- which is a size 10 or 12 in the U.S.. She cannot get women's clothes in Daegu. She has always worn boys clothes and shoes, which really affects her self-esteem and personality.

In the States she would be considered tall and beautiful. Here she is treated like a boy.

I like this also in my own interest- ah, to be able to buy nice professional clothes here in Korea.

Hmm. On the flipside, with obesity rates skyrocketing ion Korea, is it healthy to promote this body type?

Umm, is a size 10-12 a "bad" body type? At 5'10", it is a slim body type.

It's not about fat here, it is about not being rail thin and 5' tall. Fifty kilo- which does seem to be the maximum desirable weight, is reed thin for anyone of any height.

There is a body tyranny here that is unbelievable for women. I am the first to agree that being overwieght is not healthy- that is not the issue.

At 5'10", 165 lbs is not considered overweight. It is within the healthy range.

220 is surely overweight for a woman, and is a matter for concern, but these women still deserve to be able to buy clothes.

Women, and men, in Korea are starting to be built like westerners. Unfortunately, for some reason, this is not reflected in what is available in terms of clothes. I think a designer who included larger sizes could do quite well here.

Just think what life would be like here for a lot of people if the fact of over-drinking or smoking made it impossible to buy clothes or become employed. Please tell me what the difference is. None of it is healthy, but somehow the shame falls on the overeater, or simply the person who grows too large.
