I agree with derrek,
if you have the means.. stay and fight it. You'll win. How long it'll take no one knows, but once the labour board finds out you got fired after they called him, they wil come down on him hard.
again, in the very least post the schools name and info so we can all have a shot at em' |

A "Friend" at immigration, my ass... he's full of it. I've heard that line so many times! At best, he paid someone off... but still, the law is on YOUR side.
You should have asked the Labor Board what to do before buying the ticket out. You can stay here longer and try to search for a new job. I heard that you can get a "stay" here while the labor board works on your case.
Your director is full of crap.
To get that "letter," he had to FIRE you! That's what happend! That's how he got the "exit" letter. He told immigration you are fired. So you've been fired without pay... and after you reported him to the Labor board. Talk to the Labor Board again. Get a visa stay from immigration (he doesn't "know" anyone... that's CRAP). Get more work somehow, crash in a Goshi-won, and STAY HERE forcing him to go to trial and PAY. It will be WELL worth your effort to fry that *beep*!
He WANTS you to leave so he doesn't have to pay you, and can continue to screw everyone else. |
"I know someone at Immigration" is a pretty lame but often used line. He probbaly doesnt know. You SHOULD stay and fight. If not for the money, just for the satisfaction of forcing him to pay you. Get paid and laugh in his face. Call him babo in front of other teachers. Really, dont just leave this without a fight. Its gonna eat you up inside if you give up like that. |

Well, sadly I just thought of something..
he may not have any recourse at all, because his contract would possibly have been voided when new ownership took over, right?
He'd have to ask EFL Law about that one.
I do hope you post the name and location of this place once you get through whatever mess this is. |

Yes, I bit the proverbial bullet and left K-country. But it was because I had no choice, financially. I was out of money, and it was illegal for me to find another job in Korea (no release papers from my hakwon). Just to answer everyone's question, here's the name and location of the school, just in case you want to take pot-shots at it...

I'm hoping to return to either Japan or Korea someday to finish a graduate or post-grad degree at a university there. Keyword: hoping... |
