I feel bad for mercury, that I decided to start a thread so people can brag as much as they want about their neighborhood.
So, if you think your area is the shiznit, please post why you think so.
In my honest opinion, most areas south of "the creek" are completely over rated and most of the places and women there seem the same, which kind of lacks individuality.
I can throw stones because I used to live in Yangjae during my first year in Korea. I can say it was nice and cozy, but not my cup of tea.
I prefer places like Dongdaemun, Itaewon and Jongno, the sweaty armpits of the city because those are the places were you will see different personalities come to life.
And where is Hongdae?
....of course, Kangbuk.
Anyway, I'm going to remain impartial to the whole "north/south" conflict now brewing here. |

You, sir, are a glutton for punishment.
I can hear the King of Daechidong's men circling the castle as I type. |

hear ye hear ye
Let the merry group of men come!
Because I can tell you, before they get to me, they have to get through about 500 illegal nigerians and pakis, not to mention the 2000 GIs that haunt Itaewon at the wee hours of the morning. And even if they DO get through them, they still have to tackle the immense body oder perspirating from the foul bowels of the sewer.
Yes, let them come
hehehhehehhehe!!!!! |

I would say it's the scantily-clad women who throw open doors and call me "oppa" when I'm walking home from work. That just makes my day. |

Gangbuk is the real part of seoul. No mistake about that. However is doesn't represent the real Korea. The real Korea is out in the country and provincial cities. That's where Korean attitudes and lifestyle go unchallenged. Seoul is a thing onto itself.
Gangnam is 'fusion' Korea. Half-Korean, half-Western.
To say the truth though....I don't see a big difference. Choggum. |

My neighborhood is the best!
1. Lots of dogs running around to play with.
2. Blue trucks always selling things (and they have high quality speakers that let you know they are around).
3. Lots of piles of garbage to look through for neat stuff.
4. Hookers are real close by and they grab you even though you have walked past them everyday for the past two years and have never paid them a visit. They are just so friendly!
5. Multi-cultural neighborhood that even has a couple of dozen tall women with big hands running around.
6. The ajooma's are so nice that they even yell to (at) me when I need to water my plants.
7. A street "cleaning" truck comes by once a week and dumps water on the road.
8. A neighborhood chorus of drunken men put on a hell of a show everyday at 2 PM.

Well whenever I think about Bundang, I compare it to Cheonan, rather than other places in Seoul.
Pros:
-Everything's nearby. Buses to wherever, subway, shops, bars.
-Apartment looks fancy.
-Feel special.
-Hate big cities, but the big city is real close by if I want to dip in.
-A lot cheaper/closer to Suwon.
-Swell view from apartment.
Cons:
-Sucky, boring locals who think I don't know anything about Korea and are consistently amazed that I can utter Korean.
-Everything foodwise closes before I finish work.
-Vast majority of bars closed not long after.
-ALWAYS traffic flowing in and out of the city. |

I live right next to Gapcheon, (Daejeon's small river) and can take my dog there every morning before work. We can both run around like idiots, and no one cares. What could be better than that? |

Itaewon is great because it's so central and easy to get anywhere quickly--a plus when living in Seoul. And there's such a kooky cast of characters living there, never a dull moment. |

Nowon
Upsides: Access to line 4 and 7. Access to some decent grocery stores: Carrefour, Lottemart, HomePlus. Slightly better air quality.
Downsides: English isn't spoken here. Low on eye candy. Not many young women walking around. A bit remote from everything. You're 30-60 minutes away from downtown/kangnam. |
