ONLY 5 other foreign teachers?????
I work with one other and want to throddle her on a daily basis.
I sometimes meet up with other foreign teachers on fridays, and want to throddle them.
I use to work at a school with 5 other foreign teachers and hated them all too.
Its awful working with other foreigners, brings down the atmosphere, they complain too much and talk about stupid crap i could care less about.
Guri is growing, there are other schools around, there will be more foreigners in the town than the 5 at that school.
geesh. |

In any case,
I'm now considering Ilsan. Guri or Ilsan...??? |
In all seriousness....
I know doodly squat about Guri. But Ilsan is a pretty cushy place to live, in all seriousness. It's a well planned "new city" with wide streets, real sidewalks, a beautiful lake park, and a huge mall. Now the huge mall may not sound exciting to you now, but to the best of my knowledge it is one of only tw such huge malls in the republic. This particular huge mall has a ton of restaurants from every part of the world, Italian, Thai, Japanese, German.... it's a goldmine of foreign food.
There are lots and lots of hogwons here, which means a lot of people in Ilsan speak English. There's a halfway decent expat bar called Don't Go, and a definite expat scene. With all of the Western products, expats floating around, and English-speaking locals, the expats I know in Ilsan occasionally forget they're in a foreign country.
On top of that, it's a suburb of Seoul, you can be in downtown Seoul by express bus within half an hour (when it isn't rush hour), and it's connected by subway too (50 minute trip). It's a pretty sweet place, from what I'm told. Not the most "authentic" feeling place, if that's what you're looking for, but who'se judging? |

WOW! (for real this time).
Seems awesome. I figure, I'll be IN KOREA and that's pretty darn authentic. So I'd like to have a few of the comforts of home as well which is still korean because well.. it's in korea.
Thanks for the info. |

Well I think this thread is calling to me. I know a thing or two about . I worked there last year at a gawd awful school. It was Guri Wonderland. Yeah yeah I know. I know better now. Life lesson learned and I got the "I survived working at a Wonderland shirt". Guri is ok I guess. You can catch buses to Station and that takes about 10 minutes to get there. You can also catch buses to (Lotte World) and that takes around 35-40 minutes. Guri is kind of quiet but it wasn't horrible to live there. The people were nice anyway. Stay away from Wonderland though. Terrible place. Really terrible...
If you need anymore information about Guri let me know |

| Isn't GURI just 20 minutes bus ride north of Seoul, around Achasan, Cheonho? Pass Walker Hill/Sheraton/Casino dump on the way? |
