So, I've been working for seven months in a little town called Jeondaeri, notable only for its remarkable proximity to Everland (free fireworks every night!), and the nearest English speakers (both foreign and Korean) live in Yongin, which is about 15 minutes away by bus.
I've assembled an interesting crew over the last year, but the ends of contracts are starting to draw nigh, and soon our rabble will be scattered. If I do renew my contract, I'd like to know that there will be some friendly faces around.
I've met piles of wonderful people in Seoul, but I feel I need to get to know people closer to home, for the odd weeknight out, or a late weekend that doesn't involve sleeping over or taking a 50,000 cab ride.
So, here I am, sending out a ping, wondering if there's anyone in or around Yongin who reads this board. Anybody? |

What about the Suji region of Yongin or Bundang? |

I've heard that Suji is a little more up-market than Yongin, but haven't hung out there. I like Bundang but it's a hell of a long bus ride sometimes.
I'd be happy to meet people from the extended vicinity though. What do you suggest? |

I'm not sure how big Yongin is, cos I was under the impression that Suji is part of Yongin. It's a 30 minute walk from where I live in Bundang to the bar area of Suji, so that leads me to ask, what part of Bundang did you go to?
If Suji/Bundang really is a long way for you, maybe Suwon might be an option. |

SUDDENLY SUJI...
Well, I made it out to Suji. Here's my report.
Fellas, the male/female ratio is hopelessly skewed. There were probably three men to every girl in the bar, so be prepared to butt horns with some young bucks if you want any play.
Girls, if you want to know what it's like to have the pull of a collapsing star, you might want to check this place out. My digits were flying left, right and centre. I'm loathe to give out more details lest any Dave's posters were there that night...
Well, were you? |

The Wellking bar in Shingal (it has a big picture of Sean Connery from First Knight outside it, not far from the Lotteria at the Shingal five roads) was a favourite haunt for quite a few of the foreigners in that area. When I lived there I think there were about 15~20 other foreign teachers in the Shingal/Gugal area and we'd have regular beer-fests at that place.
Odyssey was a great club that was pretty much always empty but would be happy to have us in there buying beer and their DJ would play everything we asked for |
