EFL guy said he would fill us in on details. He hasnt. Why not? I would think that this would be pretty much the most important issue facing the EFL community in Korea, if it were true. But the thread on the forum has almost been relegated to the 2nd page. Wouldnt you think so?

Maybe so, can't say for sure. All I know is that sometimes the EFL LAW guy(s) can be slow to post new information for general consumption. Esepecially at times like this when there is some kind of transition of responsibilities going on or someone new taking over the duties of on-line advice. The EFL Law guys really like to get their facts in order before reporting something that would freak out most of the E-2 slaves here in the Land of the Not Quite Right.

This whole thing could have started as the result of an overheard discussion of "I wish we could...." or "We should....." in the inner bowels of immigration or education administrations that got reported to someone who reported it to someone who said something to someone in an embassy, who told someone during a night out with the boys in Itaewon.

Well , enough playing on Dave's - got to get to work! There are young minds that need warping!!!! Wink

Take care

The thing I am confused about is everyone arguing about the "automatic 6 month stamp" that Canadians get at point of entry. When I entered a few weeks ago on a tourist, I was only given an "automatic" 90 days (3 months). To extend for an extra 3 months, Canadians have to go to immigration and REQUEST an ADDITIONAL 3 months....it's not automatic. It's just that it can be done without leaving for a visa run.

That would be news. I've never heard anyone else make such a claim. 3 months to get an ARC, okay, & instructions coming in are fuzzy such that a tourist might think that applied to them. Are you sure you have your details straight?

If his info is straight, then it must be new, as all of the tourist visa stamps that I had in the past had 'B-2, 6 mnths' written underneath it.

What, you mean the fact that I read in my passport that I have only been admitted for 3 months? Or the fact that the Korean Embassy in Canada has had the following on their website for at least the past 2 months (and, I really do think it is longer, since I have been in and out of Korea 4 times in the past 4 years, and this was always the case....HOWEVER, I can only guarantee that this was the statement that was there before I departed Canada the most recent time, which was early March):

Quote:
Canadian citizens are exempt from obtaining a visa for tourism, visiting or business(without any employment activities) for a stay of 90 days or less. The permission to stay for 90 days or less will be given at the time of your entry. Those who wish to stay longer can get an extension for an additional 90 days, for a total of 6 months.

Ironically, I know more than a few Canadians who have been in trouble aupon departure for not checking their passport stamps, just assuming that they have 6 months....without ever bothering to stop and realize that NO, IT IS NOT AN AUTOMATIC SIX MONTHS.
