Been in the country in Korea, have you? It's the doldrums for most, so how do you compare the differences between living in the country to the city?

I'm finding there's not much to do in the country but get into nature. I find the cities of Korea too hodge-podge, however, and culturally crass and cramped(Ever been to Nampo-dong, Busan, during the Film Festival)?

It's funny that Seoul has such a draw too, when I think that experiencing Korea can be more benign in the country, making me wonder why urban sprawl is something Korea has yet to unleash.

Psychollogically, however, you can really get more withdrawn at times, making you think you're at the end of the world, giving you an almost regret and self-contemplation about the effects of living a solitary existence. Not that I haven't socialized. I just went bowling with about 20 foreigners last night. But going it alone here is tougher, and I wonder how this effects a persons state of mind, how much we take for granted about the little things like small talk, and how to understand this better.

Anyway, anyone read or study about the psychollogical effects of living in isolated parts of the world, or in isolation period?

Hello, Rock!

I read a book which commented that city people may long for the peace and quiet of the country, but when they get what they want, they find it boring. Country people may long for the excitement of the city, but when they get what they want, they find it hectic.

I'm not sure where I read this, but I think it was in The Human Zoo by Desmond Morris:
