How have you girls living in Korea found the clothing shopping to be? I will be there for about 4 months this summer studying Korean and would rather buy some clothes there than haul too many clothes with me. Are there any clothing stores with simple, affordable clothes? When I lived in Japan I went to Uniqlo a lot, and then tried to make my wardrobe a little more unique by buying more interesting items in department stores. Sometimes I went to Muji, too (the "no brand" store). Are there any stores like this in Seoul? Seoul's a big place, so I'm assuming there must be something I like there. I actually preffered buying clothes in Japan, since most clothes in the U.S. don't fit (I'm short, so the arms and legs are too long unless I locate a petite section).
Thanks! |

if you wear a size 0-8 (US) then it will be ok, any bigger and i think its hard to find nice clothes. i'm on the taller side so nothing fit lengthwise, sleeves too short, legs too short but a petite person should have no problem since you can always hem up. |

I wear between a 4 and 6 (US) depending on the fit. Are there any Korean stores or brands that people like or would recommend? |

It's a little easier for most guys but I find dress shirts here are too big in the neck and too short in the sleeve. |

You might want to look at Gmarket.com. It's the sister site of Interpark, the largest online store in Korea. Their prices are very good. They also sell some American brand clothes (made in Korea for export) for far less than what you'd pay in North America. Just ask one of your female Korean friends to help you out. The site is so popular in the 20 something age group, odds are she's bought clothes there...several times. |

Unfortunately no Uniqlo in Korea!
But there is a Muji in Young Plaza, Myeongdong but it is of course more expensive than in Japan and a lot more expensive for such basics compared to what you can buy in Korean stores.
If you have a petite body size all over, you will have no problems clothes shopping here, even though Korean fashion is.. um.. interesting.
But jeans and basic pants are really reasonably priced and usually they shorten for free (otherwise take to a drycleaners and they'll take them up for the bargain price of 2000won)
P.S. Oh, for basic casual pants and tops, there's also Giordano and Basic House. |

I have the same build as you, so there will be a bunch of variety. If you are a bargain shopper like I am, there are many Korean stores that sell clothes pretty cheap...but the quality is not so great, so my clothes often thread out after a few months. I never shop at name-brand or real quality clothing shops, so I can't help you there. Some of my foreign friends like Who Au U? and other places in Itaewon, which has western-style clothing and name brands.
Some one mentioned that Korean fashion is different. It's very girly-girl, which is right up my alley and my other foreign friends give me crap alright about my clothes (think lots of pinks, frills, skirts). Of course there is more of the sporty variety if that's what you want. It's spring so there are lots of spring colors and frills....it's more conservative than Japan, although there are plenty of mini-skirts. Korean girls seem to be fans of conservative buttoned up blouses with frills coupled with really short skirts. Just go to the downtown area of your city and there will be endless shops of clothes (although most are very girly-girl).
Shoes are great...I love heels and you can find plenty of really cute shoes...not very practical though. But if you are going for plain cuteness, then Korea won't disappoint you. |

Lime green polyester should be banned from the face of the earth. |
