|
|
Just got this from a friend, tried it, PERFECT TORTILLAS!
Flour Tortilla Recipe:
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup oil
2/3 cup warm water
Directions: Mix together with a spoon and by hand. Let sit covered 30 minutes. Roll into 12 balls and press with tortilla press or roll out with a rolling pin.
I used a plastic Home Plus bag , but the dough in the middle, rolled it flat with a HITE beer bottle, really thin,
BEEF...........get some of that awesome Austrailian beef, soak in Lemon juice, 1tbl spoon olice oil, crused garlic, fry
cut green peppers, onions, fry in 1 tbspoon of olive oil
cut a bunch of ripe tomatos, onions, (I use a few Korean chilies) add salt, a pinch of oregano, pepper
sour cream from wal mart, bega chedder cheese
Voila, the best meal you have had in ages!!!!!!!!!! |

I buy my tortillas at Cosco. Thanks for the recipe, though. |

I've been thinking of ordering some masa harina and making corn tortillas- they are really easy, and, imho, so much better and more flavorful than the flour variety.
Besides, with masa harina, I could make steamed tomales. Hot Mierde! |

I just used regular flour in those paper sacks, I also used a heavy pan and......make sure they are pretty flat when you roll them out. Don't put any oil in the pan! |

Cool. Does anyone know how to make any good taco seasoning mix from scratch with the available stuff here. I would imagine gochukaru would be a reasonable sub for chili powder. Plus, I've seen cumin in different grocery stores. By the way...how do you make steamed tamales? |

I make my own all the time
1 big spoon cumin powder
3 big spoons of the Korean chilie powder (the red stuff that is everywhere)
add some black pepper, a little flour, and if you have garlic powder add some, that is all! I usually buy those nacho chips, make meat, spread it on top of the chips, add shredded bega cheese, then sour chopped lettuce, chopped fresh tomatos, and sour cream.........or......................................you can make a great taco salad, just mix everything, and use ranch dressing! |

More than one person has done serious research on Mexican cuisine. I'll be taking notes, with the hope of replicating your efforts. For my part, I make the best damn guacamole on the planet. (PM me for the recipe if you can afford the price of an avocado in these parts.) One needs some relief from the culinary dead-zone that is Korea. |

I found that Carrefour has pretty cheap prices on avocados at the moment. If you hit the store like half an hour before closing, there's usually some discount produce that you can snag, meaning you HAVE TO use it within a couple of days. If the avocados aren't completely firm (i.e. perfect for guac) they go super cheap. I bought 2 for 2000 won.
Another poster told me about making homemade sour cream: Take a cup of whipping cream (available anywhere) and mix in a couple of spoonfuls of vinegar.
Also, I take the cheongyang gochu, the hottest ones, and roast them over my range. Do it until they start popping and the skin turns black, then put them in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. After a few minutes peel and dice them. A little similar to the infamous Hatch green chilies of New Mexican cuisine. Good for making salsa fresca.
Cheers |
