This is getting kind of crazy now. I am trying to obtain my E-2 visa and the Consulate General in Chicago, IL is saying that I MUST apply with a Form 20 (confermation of visa issuance) What is this form? How do I get it? HELP please.

In addition to this document I would need to send in:

Passport
copy of passport
$45
Visa application
Return Envelope

Any Ideas?

Thanks ahead of time.

If you sent off your documents to the school that you'll be working for, they should send you the Confirmation of Visa Issuance paper, A.K.A. the blue paper.. Right now, your hands are tied till you get that in the mail.

Thanks. I didn't know they hurt? Well back to the topic.

Does the academy get the "blue" paper from the Korean Embassy in Seoul? They are used to having teachers make the Japan run and being pro active from the US is causing them some trouble? Any ideas how they get the "blue" paper?

Thanks

In Korea, your visa is tied to your employer, so you can't get it on your own.

You send the academy or school a notarized copy of your degree, transcripts, photocopy of your passport infopage and a signed copy of the contract. The school takes that and some info on their business to the Dept of immigration who issues the Confirmation of Visa Issuance.

From here, one of two things can happen:
- the schoool mails you the confirmation of Visa issuance and you take it to the Korean Embassy in your country with your passport, some photos and some money. A day later ( in my experience anyway) you have the E-2 visa sticker in your passport and you're 100% legally allowed to teach.

- the school wants you ASAP, so you enter on a tourist visa. It's not legal to teach on this, though many do. Once you're there, the school gives you the Confirmation of visa issuance form and puts you on a plane to Japan. Yay! Field trip! ( see the stickies for the appropriate city) When you come back you're 100% legally allowed to teach.
