apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere - my quick search revealed little. alert me if there's a good link. if so i'll remove this one.
i'm new and i've just been offered a position which seems pretty good however i'm expected to start working before the visa is processed. i realise this is probably due to the school being short-staffed and so i see no reason why the situation would be any more suited to me getting a visa in two or four weeks time, as opposed to now. conceivably a teacher is away on holidays, i suppose, but this hasn't been said. given the predicted closer scrutiny about to be placed on illegal teachers (i refer to previous posts on dave's), i'm a little worried.
all advice appreciated!

Tell them you will not break the laws of Korea...its in your contract(or it should be)
Dont take the chance of finesand deportation.
Once you have done your visa run you can start teaching but until you have the proper paperwork refuse.
With all the crackdowns on illegal teachers all you need is one disgruntled employee blowing the whistle on you and you will be up crap creek without a paddle. They can wait for the visa to come through.
Typical Korean bali bali syndrome. Translation: we didnt get off our asses and plan ahead and now we are stuck so we want you to take all the risks. |
