If you have any students named Eddie, Bobbie, or Deedee, try this magic trick. Write any of the following messages on a sheet of paper. Use only capital letters and don't write any punctuation:
HI EDDIE
HI BOBBIE
HI DEEDEE
Turn the sheet of paper upside-down and hold it in front of a mirror.
You should see the original message in the mirror.
This trick works as long as you confine yourself to letters in which the lower half of the letter is a mirror image of the upper half. Those letters are B, C, D, E, H, I, K, O, and X.
You can write sentences in the first person in the present tense:
I HIKE
I HIDE
or sentences in the third person in the past tense:
EDDIE HIKED
EDDIE BIKED
or you can use this construction:
I DID HIKE
DEEDEE DID BIKE
See what else you can come up with.
The longest eligible word I can come up with is DECODED.
See if you can beat that.

I found a site where you can make your own search word - just type in the words you want to use and it makes it for you. Putting the pupils' names in it as well really amazes them. |

When I was in elementary school, we used to tell each other, "Go to 7734 upside-down."
Atkinson, please don't misunderstand that those words are directed to you. |
