I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinions, pro and con, about Konkuk Univ. But I had part of my salary paid to someone else one time and had to wait almost two months to get it back (so they could extract it from the other guy's next month's pay). I also never got their 20 million key money they so proudly promise (BS) because I wouldn't live in the little hell holes across the street that they demanded I live in, even though the contract had no rule about me having to live in a certain place. They violated their own contract on at least two occasions that I can recall and probably more, and they knew it. That place is a revolving door. Let's face it, while good teachers with master's degrees were getting screwed, they were paying tons of money to a joker with a fake degree bought in bangkok. The Korean staff doesn't care about foreigners, most of the time I worked there the "director" was some ajulshee who couldn't speak a word of English. And they employ foreign head teachers who are nothing more than "yes" people who are given a little extra cash to pacify the others. Also, they guaranteed in my contract a certain number of working hours per week, then lied to me again. One month, right when my wife was six months pregnant, I made all of 900,000 won. Be careful with Konkuk because even thought you've got it in black and white, it still doesn't mean anything.

Dang maja. Good to see someone telling it like it is. That job offer stinks to high heaven. I know a few things about that place, too. Me and Hector used to kick it. No joke. They fired 19 people at once three years ago and hagwonised the place. It's the new reality. It can bite me.

I agree with the horror story. I worked at the KFLI in 1999 and had a good experience, but I've kept in touch with people and it's gone way down since then.
The English Department, while equally blase and disorganized, seems a bit better. A friend of mine took the illustrious Hector's old job and says that he got his key money and is being paid his salary. No other benefits, of course; he had to pay for his visa and visa run, no money up front, no orientation, no business cards, etc., but for the 12 hours a week and vacation it's not bad.
Where is Hector now, by the way? Did they let him out yet?
