I found a new cinema at Nam Dae Mun but I don't think its the best. Is there an arthouse cinema here? |

There's an arthouse cinema called Cinecube on basement 2 In the Hungkuk Life building I work in. If you go to Gwanghwamun subway head for the exit where Donghwa Duty Free building is. Then go down the street with 'Wood and Brick' (it'll be on the other side of the road). You'll see a massive 'hammering man' sculpture outside the building about 200 metres down the road. |

Second that. It's the best one I've found by far. The sound system is excellent. It's called Daehan Cinema, and it's connected to the subway at Chungmuro, so it's pretty easy to find. That's where I'll be seeing Star Wars also. |

TY Godzilla. I've seen that sculpture. Its a knock off of the Seattle sculpture and I've seen that too.
What is the schedule like? |

Yeah... I've seen the one in Seattle and the one in Frankfurt as well. Pretty cool though. As for the Cinecube schedule... no idea mate, but if your Korean's up to it, here's the website http://www.cinecube.net/ |

For sound and comfort I go to Megabox in COEX. |

Megabox is my safety. It's bloody hard to get same day tickets, however. I think gangnam has a shortage of movie theaters. However, for a film like Star Wars I'd go a week before and reserve a ticket. If your Korean is poor, usually someone there speaks enough English.
The Artereon at Sinchon looks nice but I hate the stupid elevator wait. The one near Chungmaro at least has a big series of escalators.
I've never been to the one at hyehwa... it has some kind of medieval theme. But it looks cool. |

I could be wrong, but I think the CGVs are all HD and Artreon in Shinchon is definitely HD.
The best theater is Megabox in COEX -- big screen, dolby surround, and not a fucking HD projection (film -- glorious, clear, crisp, film). Get a friend to order tickets online and pick them up in the machines (otherwise you'll be waiting in an insanely long line).
For good movies like LOTR, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Spiderman, X-Men, etc., I only go to Megabox. For just normal flicks I go to Artreon. |

Usually for megabox I get in the reserved ticket line and order my tickets in advance. Sometimes it's busy but generally the line isn't too long. A book in hand, you can easily handle the line. |

Seen X3 in Megabox COEX.... great sound system... hall no.2
Found it useful to have a cash ticket counter, where the queue is shorter. |

I always get same day tickets at COEX with a very short wait. My secret is that I hire an ajumma to cut her way to the front of the ticket line. It's amazing what an ajumma will do for 2000 won. |

The best thing about Megabox in COEX is that the theaters are somehow shielded so it's impossible for the hanphone addicts to make or receive a cellphone call.
I swear, I went to a cinema in Seongnam once where at least one person in every row was talking on their phone!!! |

Don't you just love the considerate nature of Koreans! And if you had complained to an usher, he probably would have looked at you like you're the weird one. |
