Having had to explain to my Korean friend why she can't use "by walk" to express a method of getting from A to B (a phrase she learnt at school), I wondered: do you guys notify the publishers of text books you use, when the English in them is hideously wrong?
I'm not over here to teach, but I did look through a number of ESL textbooks whilst seeking books to help me learn Korean, and I noticed that some of the English used seemed rather, uh, interesting... |

Doesn't "by" imply on some sort of conveyance on which you are riding? |

Yes, there is some very interesting English used in books sold here. One of my friends used to ask me to look over his and mark any mistakes. I did. It took hours because there were so many.
My friend wrote a letter to the publishing company...then threw away the book.
He never got any response from the publisher. Maybe he should have thrown the book at the publisher. |

The problem is the books with the most mistakes are English textbooks by Korean writers, most especially the public school textbooks.
There is no way a Korean author is going to listen to, much less act upon, advice from a waegukin. |

Our school tells us to alert them of errors, which we do. But as to what they do with them..who knows. |
