I am doing some research for a presentation that I have to do.
I want to know what hogwans /schools concentrate on developing more
Listening and Speaking skills
or
Reading and Writing
I have worked in 4 hogwans since I have been in Korea and only one of these institutes have concentrated on developing listening and speaking skills over reading and writing.
Any useful feedback here would be good. If you don't want to add your school name here then please pm me.
Thanks everyone

In the public elementary school system, the kids arent' supposed to even see written language until the middle of grade 4, and in the textbooks the focus is heavily on listening and speaking though Grade 6. Lately they've been adding supplemental materials that require some reading and a little writiing. |

Definitely listening and speaking. Writing and reading are evidently too boring for the masses, and as you know boring material has no place in the classroom. |

I've worked at 3 haggies, and of them 2 focussed solely on listening and speaking, and 1 on (gasp!) all 4 skills. So, I voted Listening and Speaking.
At the haggie that focussed on all 4 areas, the kids were near fluent and had developed very good speaking skills I think in part to the fact that they could read, and read on their own all the time. There is a lot of benefit derived from being able to read fluently.... they pick up loads on their own. |

Where's the option for "no discernible plan" or "they have no goals"?
Unless you include that option, I'd take the results of this poll with a grain of salt. |

My public elementary school only wants me to focus on the students having fun. |

I'm doing test prep so my kids NEED the writing skills more. Also their speaking skills are generally very good so they need to bring up their writing... |
