Starting yesterday, all the channels from my cable provider began switching stations around, moving some channels to different numbers on my tv, and some channels disappeared, while others appeared (didn't know there were such channels as the Bouddhism channel or the Christian channel...).

Actually, the changes have continually been happening, even changing from one hour to the next. I just checked now (to be accurate) and they've changed again!

Well, AFN is no longer to be found. It used to appear on channel 73, but then it became the Bouddhism channel, and now it's some kind of scrambled channel. Shocked

I asked a few people around the office and someone said they will no longer be providing AFN. Is this only regional, temporary, or is this just happening to me.

By the way, I live in Ansan, and my cable provider is Han-Bit (?).

Any info?

I had 3 different cable providers in my time in Korea. Each in a different city. And each randomly and arbitrarily switched channels around. No warning. Very irritating. The first company didn't have AFN at all.

I've been told, but don't know if it is true, that the cable companies don't pay for AFN. They just 'steal' it. When they get caught and asked to pay rental (is that the right word?), they drop the channel.

You might consider cutting off your little finger and mailing it to the cable office. I hear that gets their attention.

In the good old days, people would have a friend back home tape their favorite programs and mail over the videocassettes. People had arm loads of videos to trade around.

Does that still go on?

it happened to me in daegu as well. here it is on channel 21.
somehow, when i select the channel once, i get a scrambled screen. if i enter the same channel again, it returns to normal.
my Tv has two modes for cable. one mode receives only a few channels and AFN, the other receives all channels and NO AFN.

maybe the cable company has moved AFN to another cable package.

It's happened to me, I didn't lose AFN, but now CNN is scrambled.

cable in Korea is a crapshoot from month to month... I'm thinking about changing over to skylife.

As of last nite my AFN is gone too. I did discover this morning while I was scrolling around looking that I now have Hallmark..........WOW. Never have had CNN here.

I'm in Ansan, and the only cable company here is Hanvit.......so can't move to another company. My friend in Anyang has had the same thing happen, except she has ended up with Discovery Channel. I haven't been so lucky.

At this rate I may as well just cancel the cable. I'll just keep downloading my favorite shows. At least that way I can watch them when I want.

It happens quite often...maybe twice a year.

And there is a lot of warning...it will be going across the top of your screen in korean for a couple of weeks before the channels all change...just have to learn to read Korean.

I've never had AFN so i don't know what i am missing but in my three years here i have lost BBC, CNN, Discovery and National Geographic Channel and replaced with crap.

I'm in the habit of doing the Auto-Tune on my TV every couple of months.

When the cable company mess around with the channel numbers they might have moved your favorite station to a number that was previously ignored by your TV.

Sometimes after re-tuning you can get whole new channels you never had before. Give it a go.

There is never anything going across the screen and I can read Korean. My wife is Korean and she is always just as suprpised as I am when all the channels are changed.

I lost Arirang last week, thank god. If you're dying to watch AFN, you can probably get it by disconnecting your cable and installing a coat hanger.

In the region i live in Kyeongsangnamdo...there is a couple of weeks warning, then on one of the channels(Ch. 10 -the local channel) it will give details of the channels to be changed as a test pattern from 12 till 7 in the morning and when this will occur.

Well, AFN is still nowhere to be seen on Hanvit in Ansan. My co-workers are all feeling the same frustrations as I am. No more Survivor, no more 60 minutes. Xnay on Nightly News, Leno and Dave Letterman. I can't even count on good ol' dependable Judge Judy.

I'm thinking of writing to Hanvit and getting others to write also. I think I'll post something here, a letter in Korean, to send to the cable company. Hopefully, people here will help me try to get AFN back.
