Serious request:
Can someone please provide a link to a news story or other article where Bush is directly quoted saying he "talks to God."
Thanks

Well, you may not like the source, but this chap claims that Bush told him that God was telling him what to do.
------------------------------------------------
According to Abbas, immediately thereafter Bush said: "God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

Thanks for the link R.S.. An interesting read. I think my take on it would probably be parallel to the thoughts of the writer at Common Dreams:
http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0630-04.htm
Specifically, when the writer stated:
Quote: |
"According to Abbas, Bush said: 'God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them.'"
Before you jump to any conclusions, remember that you are reading a translation of a translation of a translation. Mahmoud Abas does not speak English. Bush does not speak Arabic. If Bush said these words, or something like them, Abas heard them from a translator. Then Abas repeated them, as he remembered them a couple of weeks later, in Arabic. Some unknown person wrote down what he thought he heard Abas say. Then Regular, or someone at Ha'aretz, translated them back into English-or perhaps first into Hebrew and then into English.
Clearly, we don't yet know what Bush said, or why. Just as clearly, the man has some explaining to do. And whatever the truth of the matter, he has serious problems. |
Hi Hypnotist: I understand what you're saying. But really, I think all presidents have at one time or another stated that they pray. I still remember the chuckle I got when the news showed Clinton coming out of church one Sunday playing with a "slinky." So, to be fair, to make the stretch with Bush about prayer, we have to do it to all the others as well. As far as his quote to James Robinson, it could be argued that he was just being a typical politician pandering to his audience. We know that Robinson is a weeee bit on the conservative (read, wacko) side of Christianity.
Additionally, it may be that playing the "God card", if you will, with Abbas is just another way of pandering or getting in good with Abbas. Who knows.

I saw him on CNN talking to Larry King. He was going on and on about how he is doing God's work and that God wants this or that. His idiot wife did the same thing. The man is a total moron, a bafoon and I think he truly believes he is on God's mission. Which makes him dangerous because he has no concept of bending, of dialogue. Its all a monologue with the idiot. Do as I say or else. |
As diplomatic with your words as ever. You never disappoint I didn't see the Larry King broadcast, so I can't really comment one way or the other. While I agree with your thoughts in general, I just can't find it in me to start calling people who are the spouses of people I have problems with "idiots." I guess that may be one of the differences between us.
Anyway thanks everybody that pointed me in the direction to get the info I needed.
Take care

He ain't no Dylan but refreshing given the climate.....
I'll add my too cents for Waygookin, cryptic but poignant. Bush is most American's wet dream --- he believes just enough.......religion not as joyous or moral but as a repository for guilt, so we may sin again.........each and every week.

Leonard Cohen - The Law
How many times did you call me
And I knew it was late
I left everybody
But I never went straight
I don't claim to be guilty
But I do understand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
Now my heart's like a blister
From doing what I do
If the moon has a sister
It's got to be you
I'm going to miss you forever
Tho' it's not what I planned
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
Now the deal has been dirty
Since dirty began
I'm not asking for mercy
Not from the man
You just don't ask for mercy
While you're still on the stand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
I don't claim to be guilty
Guilty's too grand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
That's all I can say, baby
That's all I can say
It wasn't for nothing
That they put me away
I fell with my angel
Down the chain of command
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand
There's a Law, there's an Arm, there's a Hand |
