| I am a Korean-American with a US citizenship. I have a valid license in Minnesota, but how do I go about getting an international license here? Do I have to take a computer or road test? Or can I just pay some money and get one? |

| When I got my license all I did was pay 15,000 take an eye test and wait 30 minutes. Voila license in hand. |

Go to this site: www.dla.go.kr they have it in English as well. It's the Korean Drivers License Agency.  |

now that says USA.. so how come so many Americans are getting a license without taking the written test?

so all countries shouldnt have to take driving tests.. so how come some people have been?? whats going on here..

Go to Samseong driving centre. They do everything on site, That's where I got mine, but I had to wait a few days for them to make the card.
I am not sure of the exit, but it marked on the map in the subway and is south east of the COEX building. About 5 or 6 minutes walk. |

I got mine 2 years ago. Went in with my valid Canadian driver's licence and paid 10,000 (5,000 for the eye test, 5,000 for the application fee, I had my own passport photos so I saved 5,000).
30 minutes waiting time after that and I had my licence, which is good until 2012. |

| I'm a Brit so I don't know about you Yankees, but I just rolled up with my UK license and got a Korean one (after an eye test) within the hour. If you're in North Seoul try the centre in Sangam... very near World Cup Stadium. Very helpful and quick. |

2 reasons:
1-They change the rules from time to time, so some folks may have gotten their licenses at a time when Americans didn't have to take the test.
2-Sometimes these things depend on who's at the desk at the time.
I just got my license about 2 months ago. I had to take the written test (I have a valid Alaska license). The stupid thing about it was that I had to make 2 trips to the DMV to do it. The first time was just to fill out paperwork and the second to take the test. Of course, they failed to mention this to me when I originally made the appointment, so I went to the office expecting to take the test and was told to come back in 2 weeks (could have been sooner, but the last test is at 2: 30 on weekdays and I work 8 am-4:30 pm). The real stinky part was that the office was clear out in Naju...an hour out of Gwangju. So I had to waste over 6 hours of my life (2 round-trip bus rides, plus an hour each trip at the DMV) on this stupid thing. *sigh* Oh well... at least it's valid for 9 years. |
