What nationality are your children? If they're Korean, will they have to serve mandatory military service when they are older? How do you feel about that?

What nationality are your parents? What are their social security numbers? How do you feel about them retiring or are they retired already?
Why are you asking inane personal questions?

What color is your underwear and whats your Dave's password?

I agree with fidel, this is none of your business. If you are asking because you are about to have kids and are worried about legal issues, then its fine. Otherwise, I see no purpose for this question.

You guys are awfully touchy about this..Is Nationality something that is so personal you can't share? I ask simply out of curiousity. Choosing the nationality of your child is something I think would be an important decision, and I'm curious why people made the decisions they did. Since military service is obviously a huge issue in this choice, that's why I bring it up. If it's too personal, don't answer!

You are asking personal questions for no reason. If some Korean came up to you and started asking you personal stuff, you'd be here complaining about how Koreans have no respect for privacy.

DW, you never miss an opportunity to troll, do you? Will you please just go away in the corner for awhile and amuse yourself?

It's a legitimate question. If I were married to a Korean wife and we had kids, I wouldn't want my sons serving in the ROK army or any other branch of the military here.

Its a legit question for someone in that situation. Bosintang is NOT in that situation.

Knowledge? Curiosity? The fact that no-one is compelled to answer the question of they don't want to?

Of all the things to snidely complain about, you really do pick the most inane things.

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

I don't like that pillick DW agreeing with me, I'll tell you all you want to know!

My son has dual citizenship, and we will renounce his Korean one(unless he wants to keep it) before he turns 17/18. If he wants to do his military sevice more power to him, whether it will still be around in 20 years time is a different issue though.

So about your parents....

I didn't realise it was possible to renounce your citizenship in Korea, so it's not as a big deal as I thought (and hence, one of the reasons I asked).

As far as my parents go, they're semi-retired but only in their mid-40's, so I suspect my father is going to drive my mother insane in a few years. As far as their nationality goes, oooooooooh, now that's just nobody's business but theirs! Razz

Letty has both right now and she can decide which one she wants to keep when she is older (before she is 1Cool. Being a girl, she doesn't need to do any army time.

From what I understand though, your nationality doesn't exclude you from military service. If you are Korean, and are in the country at the right age, then you have to do it regardless of your nationality.

At least that's what I heard.

If you are talking about ethnicity you are wrong. It is all to do with your nationality. If all you had to be was an ethnic Korean then tourists would be getting rounded up and thrown ino the military.

Why? I didn't realise there were countries around that you weren't allowed to change nationality. Pray tell...

But that's precisely what I heard. An American-Korean guy came here to teach English and was rounded up to the army to do his time, despite the fact that he is an American citizen!

Like I said though, I just heard about it, not sure how true it really is.
