I have an F-2-1 visa that I got in May.
Also an E2 that I got in August last year. I signed a contract for a year from September 1 2002 to September 1 2003. I had to have the visa extended because my passport ran out in April and so did my period of stay on my alien card. Now heres the problem. It was extended a month past my last day, to the end of September. I dont intend on staying an extra month. Could I have problems? My hagwon doesnt expect me to stay either, they know Im leaving on the 1st of September. I dont expect problems from them, but could they cause me trouble if they wanted? I have an F-2-1 which I think means that I could leave any time without a letter of release. Should I worry or no? Should I get them to cancel the E2 visa or just go? |

i left a job early once and my boss confiscated my arc card during our adieus at the hagwon. when i got to the airport immigration wanted it. because i didn't have it, they fined me 100,000 won. even though they called the boss and knew he had it. since i was all ready for thailand i had no korean won left. the airline was Japan Air Lines and a representative with a walkie talkie was with me, and talking to the pilot of the plane. the plane was delayed 20 minutes while we dashed to the currency exchange to get the thai bot turned into won. the JAL rep, a stewardess, was hugely patient and polite to the korean immigration during this process. the plane was going to osaka from incheon. the rep and i, after paying the fine, then RAN some more but this time long distance to the jet at its gate. a security guard right at the jet door reached for her pistol (shoulder holster) as she said 'WHY is he running?!'.
so my boss had the card. but immigration didn't. they phoned him and he said he had the card. didn't matter. big fine. |
