A friend of mine who was pretty squeamish was in China years ago, and was in a market when she saw a man with a cage of live rabbits and a pot of boiling oil. When someone ordered a rabbit, he would pick it up by the ears and hold it squirming in the oil until it was cooked. She didn't last long in China.

I suppose the fact that we (most of us) eat animals doesn't make it a black and white difference, but I like to think that western society tries to at least minimize the suffering of the animal. Shooting a cow or hatcheting a chicken is at very least a quick passing.

There was a time when wearing fur was necessary to keep warm, but it's no longer needed-- and stripping an animal of its 'skin' alive is horrendously worse.

I had something like that happen with me, I went to my local supermarket and went to liberate a turtle that was amongst dozens in a large fish tank, and as quick as I could say Ni Hao the turtle was cracked open with a hammer.....eeeek!
So that was the last time i went to liberate anything.
I also saw puppies in little bird cages with absolutly no space to move, and because it was sleeping and I took an intrest in looking at the puppie (purely out of concern) she bang the sh*t out of the tiny cage and poked it with a stick to get it to perform.

Cosmetics From Executed Chinese Prisoners

File picture from 2001 shows trucks in China carrying condemned prisoners parading in front of thousands of spectators who turned up to watch their executions Shocked

LONDON (AFP) - A British newspaper said that a Chinese cosmetics company was using skin harvested from the corpses of executed convicts to develop beauty products for sale in Europe.

Agents for the firm, which could not be named for legal reasons, have told would-be customers that skin taken from prisoners after they have been shot is being used to develop collagen for lip and wrinkle treatments, the Guardian newspaper said following an undercover investigation.

"The agents say some of the company's products have been exported to the UK, and that the use of skin from condemned convicts is 'traditional' and nothing to 'make such a big fuss about'," the daily alleged.

It said doctors and politicians were worried about the dangers associated with people wanting to look better in such ways, because European regulations to control cosmetic treatments such as collagen are not expected for several years.

"Apart from the ethical concerns, there is also the potential risk of infection," the newspaper said.

This world is no place for a gentleman (or lady) as long as governments and ignorant masses of people support this kind of stuff...

I realize I'm both pushing my luck and showing excessive laziness at the same time, but would you happen to have a link handy?
