So here is my problem...

I have got my classes, materials and lesson plans all sorted out, my appartment nice and tidy, got to know my students names, made friends with the foreigners at my office, learnt a little Korean and tasted loads of the food since i arrived here a short while ago.....

Everything has gone really smoothly since moving to this new job in Gwangju from the last country. However i feel that there is there is a big hole in my life which could only be filled by the love from a good woman. I am not fussy about race or ethnicity, i am in my early twenties and at the risk of being flamed.....reasonably good looking! However in the time i have been here i have met a grand total of 2 girls who were available! I am not asking for the moon on a stick here am i?Just some nice female friends and possibly a date?

My question to you is how to go about meeting some girls in Gwangju or maybe Korea in general as friends/dates/girlfriend material......as i cant imagine spending another 3 years with my (male) room mate!!!

Thanks to all you lot who can help me! I'll buy you a beer!

And if someone has the secret password that unlocks the place where they keep all the datable Gwangju girls, maybe you also have the password for the girls who dance outside 7-11s in Daegu. Let me know and I'll buy you TWO beers!

I had met a great woman in Gwangju as well as some other casual relationships. Women in that region are just hotter than hot. Sadly, since I moved up to Seoul I have had no luck with the women at all. I really miss Choella Namdo.

Oh Jesus Mother Fucking Christ!! You didn't just say what i thought you did???!!

reads post again

Yep, you did!! OHHHH...it's on now boy!!!

Well, well, well Mr. Garden Variety Gwanju thinks he can boast about his medicore looks huh?? Well not on my watch pal!!

You gottta get your ego in check before you start throwing other non-commital comments in our faces. Next thing we know you'll be talking about your normal hair, your ordinary bone structure and your tolerable yet undistinguised body shape. Christ, before too long you'll be droning on and on about your satisfactory personality, unobjectionable sense of humor and 6.2 inch *beep* (erect).

Take a long hard look in the mirror at that run-of-the-mill face of yours before posting here again. You've got a lot of growing up to do!!

Here's what's worked for me so far:
1. Make friends with teachers of adults from other schools.
2. Go to the bar/noraebang with them.
3. They will bring their students.
4. Enjoy.

If you're looking to find a lady I say either get involved in some kind of club. Never tried this, but I'm sure it would work.

Make friends with some Korean guys, they can be especially helpful. And girls too, because they'll lead you to more.. they tend to flock together.

Learning a bit of Korean goes a long way, especially if you haven't been here too long, looks even better.

Since there's not really too many foreigner bars around (only soul train, shooters, or julianas), I would suggest going to one of the little clubs - gangsta in chonam dae, or db club in downtown. DB has been really good, although it does get pretty packed. If you make with some Korean buds head over to Juliana night club. Last time I was there it was bumping with ladies, but unfortunately I brough my own. Waygooks aren't usually welcome there without Koreans.

It doesn't take much. Just say hello to some ladies, be polite about what you say. And when you get a chance just bring them to the norae bong, or out to eat and the rest is history.

Definately think the Gwangju girls are hot, but haven't found too many just out for fun. You can find yourself trapped in a relationship without even knowing it.

good luck, and if you find anything better, let me know too..

Good point. Once you know all the keyboard shortcuts for Starcraft, meeting chicks is ridiculously easy. And Korean guys love pimping their sisters all over town for foreigners.

no way, man! there seems to be this image on this board of all korean guys as being waygook-hating zeroes who hang around the pc bang all day.. believe it or not, they aren't all like that ... since i started my new job in an office full of korean guys, we started going out clubbing and as far as girls are concerned, i think having a mix of korean and western guys is really beneficial for all concerned.
the more you are involved in regular korean society, the better your chances are of meeting decent women, and not just the ones who want to get with some foreigner (ie. any foreigner). and besides, it gives you a much better experience of korea than those who just hang around with other foreigners, complaining about korea the whole time.

Find a nice place to meet girls (bar, Starbucks).

Sit down, pause, smile and say, "Hi, do you speak English?"

It's the perfect way to meet a girl. If she's interested in you, she'll say "yes." If not, she'll have a polite way to tell you to leave without hurting your feelings.
