It began at 7am in my small town....awakened by loud horrid music...the traditional kind...where it sounds like the singer is very old and in great pain...you know the kind....
Then about 7:20am my coteacher starts phoning me(lets the phone ring 800 times, calls back a couple of times)......I don't answer. Let me sleep!!!!!
I get to school at 9am....coteacher says I tried to phone you... to tell you that you didn't need to come in today(coulda told me YESTERDAY)....so I go back home. It's a mighty long walk.
On my way I pass a small building near my apt....with 4 giant loudspeakers blasting this music...I gave the man in the window my dirtiest look...
I have been at my apt all day...it is now almost 5:30pm....and the music is still going....the same song over and over again....don't know what it is...but it is wretched.
I closed all the windows, but the noise still came in.....and then I opened them again b/c I was wanting fresh air.....and so now I am just ticked off...
Anyone know why they would do this ALL DAY??? Did someone important die? No special holiday today...right?? What's up???????????
Can you buy earplugs here???? I can't find any!! |

Maybe you could try an industrial supply store & get a set of those ear protectors jackhammer guys use.
Sounds to me like your coteacher was trying to being considerate. 7:20 isnt unearthly early if you've got a "mighty long walk" to be at work by 9.
(On a sidenote, if youre going to quote someone in your signature line, you might want to spell his name right.) |

You can usually find earplugs if you look in any large stationery store...look around the display for the Post-It Notes, they are usually in that area. Orange foam rubber ones. |

Considerate? No. That would be letting me in on important dates from the start of the semester....calling me at that hour is ridiculous. He knows I enjoy my sleep, and could have told me at the very least the day before. He always does this sort of crap. Had to go to school for 3 days during mid-terms....do nothing, why couldn't I have those days off? He is just a jerk.....all the time.
Never actually noticed the spelling error in my sig, thanks for pointing it out....guess that's what I get for cutting and pasting from the net. Haha |

I have a feeling a lot of Koreans love to listen to the same song over and over. I do that too but I never subject anyone else to it.
I only have to suffer through noise pollution at work. The Korean teachers listen to the worst music. They only ever play 3-4 songs too. Today there was a bit of a change. A Korean version of 'It's Raining Men' made it into rotation. I agree with some earlier thread. Korean music is not good. Too much sappiness. |

I hear your pain. For the last two months there's been a demonstration right outside my building. In their infinite wisdom, the protesters feel the best way to get the company is to park a van across the street and blare music from 9am to 11:30 several days a week for 2mths. It drives me nuts.
It actually drove me to hauling out my Korean-English dictionary and marching on down there with 3 words picked out : loud, inconsiderate, and something else that I don't remember (I do remember that a**hole wasn't in the dictionary as I looked for it).
I'm determined not to let it bug me most days and just try to turn up the TV - but there usually isn't anything on that I want to hear that loud. I finally called the police a few weeks back and they passed me to about five different officers to try to work out why I was calling. They could understand my problem, just couldn't work out what I expected them to do about it. It was more like "you gotta hear this chick, she actually expects us to turn down the music. She's really angry, grab the phone!"
Much like the incident with the dictionary, I kind of knew beforehand that it wouldn't solve anything, but it made me feel better.
I know they keep playing it because I can sort of hear it from work, but I've never been home all day to experience it. I think if I did, I would be physically turning down the radio myself. Or buying a gun. |

Maybe there's a store opening in your neighborhood. That seems to require an inordinate amount of noise and hoopla.
Last minute notification of important information is par for the course in Korea. It's irritating. And pretty useless to complain. It doesn't get better. I once worked at a place that decided to offer a summer camp. I was told three months early to start preparing lessons. Fair enough, I thought. Then I foolishly asked what materials we would be using, what level the students would be, how many students there would be and how long the classes would last. We got that information 15 minutes before the classes started. |
