I need someone to build me a desktop computer. Im looking for either a p4 or amd64, maybe 1gb of ram, cd/dvd burner, 200gb hd, 17" flatscreen, videocard, xp home, ethernet connection, speakers. if anyone can quote me a price, please email me. How much do you want to spend? What do you want to do with the machine?

Think of the answers to these questions, then we can recommend some parts.

After that, take the list to Yongsan and get them to do the building for free. I don't live in Seoul, so I can't help you directly.

looking to spend up to 1,000,000W, including the monitor, though I don't know if this is reasonable. I would like to be able to watch movies from my computer on my tv. I'm looking to use it mostly for Internet, Word Processing, Games, Videos/Music, some Photoshop, and a little programming. I dont need anything too fancy. I would rather deal with people here than have to go to Yongsan, which is why I posted my offer to pay someone on here to build one for me.

You could easily do that with any prefab computer. The only thing you would need is a TV out card. You should be able to buy a 19" LCD monitor for 400,000 or less and a reasonably good computer for 550,000 to 700,000 depending on RAM, HDD space, processor etc..

For the basics, you can get a computer around 800,000. That will get you a Pentium 4 3.0ghz with a 17" LCD monitor, 512k of Ram, 80 Gig HD (too small -- go 120 minimum). Or you can go as low as a Pentium 2.4 (what I have) with a 15" monitor for around 700,000. I like AMD, but if you're a photoshop fan, you'll get better use out of a Pentium with Hyperthreading. You can get an Athlon64 2800 in that price range, too, if you want 64 bit for some reason.

Those prices are built. I just pulled them randomly from www.enuri.com.

Just go to Youngsan and see what they offer, or have 'em build it. You can choose any style of case you want, and they've got everything. You'll have more trouble trying to figure out which shop you want to use! They're fast and you'll have somewhere to take it to to back you up if something goes wrong.

As much as I enjoy building computers, I told myself this would be my last one I built for myself. Given the time involved, and the fact that it's so cheap to have it done by them, I don't feel like bothering with it.

I'll probably be upgrading this eventually anyway, which means I'd be doing it myself... but if I were buying new, I wouldn't bother.

Oh, I'd like to add that the deals on computer at Carrefor in Bundang are pretty good, and they are finished and ready to go -- with a LEGAL copy of Windows. I saw several in the 800,000 to 1,200,000 price range with LCD Monitor included. I also like the boxes on the HP and Compaq models these days -- efficient and lots of plugs/card readers built into the front. They have the computers on display so you can try them out.

Carrefor is just outside of Yatap station in Bundang (Yellow Line SW of Seoul).

Why on earth 64????? Is there a (REAL) justification?
AMD is cheaper (than Intel) and works just fine - been using AMD since day 1 (?)
512MB RAM is probably the min for XP, 512+256 will do ya fine.
I got a decent LG DVD burner last week (DVD-R/W only) for W 50k.
why flatscreen? I still prefer CRT for games and fast video - cheaper, better color, and longer life too.
No specs on video card? No requirements on speakers?!! Sound card???
ethernet connection?? wow - so 10MB/s will do??

What games will you play? The latest and greatest, or DOOM II?
Movies? I often just watch them on our download 'only' PC - and it is just a PIII 800 MHZ (not my PC, my room-mates) with 256+128 running XP.

You buy - I assemble. PM. Can give a 'map' on where to go in Yongsan.
The basement in the [old] subway station has many stores which offer v good prices - trouble is they are only open during the week, and close early by Korean standards.

Stick with big brand names, else drivers are a major pain.

Get a DECENT case/cabinet - MOST are junk - you want good quality steel to hold the daughter boards.

Also get a GOOD PS - I got 300W - but I run w 2 H/Ds, and 2 burners.

Maybe it is overkill, but I also added an extra fan to mine - heat kills. It's going to be a long hot summer.

If 'you' are building your own, half the reason is to get the combination YOU want. Go to the PC review portals - make up a wish list. Although, keep in mind the import duty. I recommend buying the k/b and mouse on your own - to get the right 'feel'.

ya, 256 will let ya run XP, - I was using the same on my download PC, but found that extra memory does help - my roomie is not that savvy and the more apps you open..................... the newer games, as well, demand More RAM!

So for the novice, I say 512 - doesn't add that much to the total price.

Far cry from when my ZX81 ran on 2K (yes, KiloBytes) of RAM !

I bought the 16k Ram expansion pack for MY Timex/Sinclair 1000 (same as the ZX81) my computer smokes your computer! Just don't bump the expansion module, or it will freak out the screen and you have to start over. ha! My father duct-taped it to the computer so it wouldn't move! Laughing

Wasn't it cool to record programs onto cassette tape? I bet I could still find one of those old cassettes and play "Gates" or some game like that on my old T/S 1000.

Oh, the memories. Then came the Commodore 64... wow!
