Jackthecat - R&L
From my experience, Koreans have been told again and again that there is no 'R' sound in their language.
Have the students say the color blue in Korean..repeat the word with an exaggerated 'L' sound..ask if it's correct.
Try other Korean words like "our grandfather" and "tomorrow"..again ham it up with the 'L' sound..ask if that's good Korean pronunciation.
Once the students connect with their "Korean 'R' ", they're a half step closer to finding English "R".
Deliberately mispronuncing Korean words really gets students focused, too.
With very young children, try making "angry dog" sounds...GRRRR! |

I was asked by someone to describe super dooper hangman...
1) do not play this game with really young kids... they tend to get laid out if you rifle the stuff ball at them to hard.
the object of the game is to make a bunch of letters and tape them to the kids backs. Then have one kid run around trying to spell the name by nailing the right letter.
trust me use a big room for this, and oh lord IT IS SO GREAT TO BE IT.... |

Yeah, I was just told that the other day by the KTs at my school. "There is no R sound in Korean," they said, and I was absolutely shocked to hear them both agree on that. How do they not hear it, especially in "u-ri" or "chetori" (I'm being lazy, I know).
Anyway....

You lost me there. How does saying "ppalansaek", "halaboji" or "naeil" help them connect with their Korean R? (Yes I'm being lazy, no patience for typing Korean atm.) I understand "u-ri" would help; can you think of any other Korean words with an R sound? I think it would help.
Thanks,
