A few days ago, as strolled along the aisles of Carrefour, I came across the baked goods section. Having given up all hope of ever finding decent wholemeal bread years ago, I wasn't really expecting to find anything worth buying. But wait - what's this? Hmm! Garlic bread! Well, surely, there can't be anything amiss with that.

Upon arriving at home, and taking a bite, I was rudely made aware that the bread in question was coated in sugar! That's right - sugar garlic bread. (I can imagine some of you reading this, chuckling "What a feeb! She actually thought that it'd be good! Didn't she know about the sugar?!")

So - what other unique versions of non-Korean food have others come across here?

My first year I tried alot of this stuff. These days, I avoid junkfood like the plague.

-potato / corn chips that have pictures on the package of the contents soaked in milk. waaaaayyy too much sugar.
-ketchup on salad, which really is just cabbage
-can't forget to mention CORN on everything
-hamburger steak in a sweet sauce (?!)
-coffee flavoured tea
-bou dae Chiggea. . .had it once with students. . .sure, I LOVE spam and processed meat. . .and yes, I know the history of this particular hybrid/fusion

I've been present at the table when that Spam-stew was served! I know of its horrors!

What about that packet snack they sell at the corner shops - the one with squid, what appears to be chocolate, and peanuts?! I know that isn't a Korean take on Western food, but the combination is so bizzare that it bears mentioning...

Yea, that sugary garlic bread pisses me off, because it's hard to quickly tell the difference between it and normal garlic bread.

Exactly! Rejoice, I am not alone! It's not as though garlic bread here is universally sugary - Paris Baguette make quite decent stuff - so how are we hapless foreigners to tell the difference?

You aware that Coke and Pepsi are rolling out all sorts of these drinks in the U.S. as wek speak. It's hardly a Korean exclusive.

Beat this: Haiwaian pizza - should have ham and pineapple on it, right? Not here - candied cherries and jellyfish! Very Happy

Why would I be aware of that? I don't live in America - never have, most likely never will. Very Happy Just because it's American, doesn't make it part of the global consciousness.

But we "Yanks" also have Hindoo temples galore.

Not to mention that what is American actually does tend to be part of the global consciousness in this day and age.

Are you saying that Coca-Cola and Pepsi do not sell drinks in your country?
