Have you noticed these signs? Manhattan has one, as do a few other restaurants in Itaewon.
Did something bad happen with Nigerians? |

Yes, the signs are racist and discolorful to have around.
But, this time I will side with the Koreans on this for a reason.
First of all, they bring alot of the drugs into the clubs, if you want to get something, you know where to find it and find them.
As you know, the USFK policy is if they hear of an instance where a soldier bought drugs at a certain place, if they investigate and it is proven real, the MPs will put the place off-limits. So alot of clubs want to eliminate the source of the drugs.
(Before you call me a racist- My instance.
I went to a club with a group of students that included a sizable number of females and as we were sitting down to have a good time, a Nigerian came over and sat with us- without asking or anything, just sat there. We did our best to continue to have a good time until he made a phone call and a few minutes later, a whole group of Nigerians came into the place and sat next to our table and started to bother us. The girls continuously told them to go away and to leave us alone, but they didn't. We even moved to a different table, but they followed us. Me and a korean male student were the only men there and the girls were too afraid to go dance because the nigerians would even follow them on stage. Later, one of the girls began to hit it off pretty well with a GI at another table and she want to join him [we had no problems with that, since it was a socializing time for us], as she was going over there, one of the Nigerians pulled her aside and told the GI, "This is my girl tonight!" and she pushed and shoved him. We then got the security involved and they finally removed them from the table. And one of them even offered me some marajuana if I would let them sit with us. After that, we got up and walked out of there)
Secondly, in alot of the clubs, they are very persistant to the point that they harass alot of the female korean patrons and scare them away from the establishment.
Case in point; King Club
A long time ago, that was the place to be to hang out and possibly hook up. But now, after 1am, it is a filthy dive where no one wants to go because they are afraid of being harassed by the Nigerians there.
( I went there one night and alot of the girls were constantly playing "musical tables" to avoid them until the security told them to go away.
I am not saying it is good policy, but I am saying that if that is what is needed to make a place visitable, then so be it. |

Haven't noticed those signs, but then I don't go down to Itaewon a lot. And when I do, I guess it's not to the favourite hangouts of the Nigerians.
However, there was an incident at the Tax Office a couple years ago involving my company. We were either requesting documents or having something processed ... can't remember now... but it was something that should have been simple and my secretary should have be able to get it done on her own. But they wouldn't, so I had to go down in person to try and sort things out. The guy at the front counter saw me, rang up his boss and explained, "No, I tell you, he's not a Nigerian." Then just like that -- *snaps fingers* -- paperwork processed, problem resolved. |

Just an aside note.
Everyone says every non-GI guy is a Nigerian. Yet most of those guys when I talk to them, are from just about everywhere else on the African continent except Nigeria. (Of course a small number will also say they are U.S. soldiers when you know for a fact they aren't).
Just an aside.. why do so many continental African guys hangout up on the 2nd floor or Burger King? |

Okay, just showing the other side of the coin here and all, but don't tons of white (or whatever other color they are) people here also harass young Korean women in Itaewon (or Hongdae, or wherever)?? Why is it so much of a bigger deal if Nigerians do it?? And the thing about 'em being persistent doesn't really work for me, cuz I see many an overly- persistent, drunk, and semi-threatening westerner scare the bejeezus outta un-interested Korean girls nearly every weekend.
Also, for every bad story there are about these guys there should be some good ones, too. I myself have never had any bad experiences. I've had great nights with Nigerian dudes (and yeah, they were from there and not another African country) that I've met randomly in Hongdae, Itaewon, and even Osaka.
I can understand whatever stigma there may be against 'em and all, but really I think our community can be just as deserving sometimes...
Anyways, I guess I'll just play the wishy-washy obvious role again and say "They're not all bastards."
Wow, that was cathartic. I wish I was more controversial.

I've read your entire post. Can I call you a racist now? It's a problem with INDIVIDUALS, not everyone in the freakin' nation. |

The 2nd responder is racist, a liar and filty commie and I dislike him for eternity. The signs don't say "Black People" they say Nigerians. The rule would apply to a Korean-Nigerians as well. It has been made very clear to me that White People = Europeans is no longer true, therefore it is true for the rest of us humans. Nigerians no longer equal Black People therefore a a "No Nigerians" rule is not racist.
The real reason Nigerians should be banned is that they are a diseased riddened people. Yes its true. Nigerians singled handedly bought back polio. According to Nigerians, polio vaccinations are a bio weapon that combines AIDS and sterility weapon.
The Koreans are simply acting on the best interest of humanity and good luck to them.

there are alot of scammers out there that are african... stealing phones, hooking up with local girls and then defrauding them, drugs, getting them up the duff... and they are regulary getting deported. However there are also some real upstanding ones out here, quite a few down here in Haebangchon. like anything, it only takes a few bad apples. |

Get over it, this is typical korean b.s Iv'e never seen any problems with african dudes in itaewon and i use to hang out there heaps. being PC and calling b.s on a banning of a whole continent of people from an establishment are two different things. Korea would do itself a favour in ridding itself of it's racist paranoia.

Wow. The op said this:

Hmmm...one incidence and all Nigerians are bad and must be discriminated against. Haven't we heard apologists complain that the "whiners and complainers" do the same thing about Koreans. So I think if the apologists truly cared about eliminating racism they would object to this very strongly. This is racism pure and simple.
Also as someone else said, if they can do that to Nigerians, why couldn't they do that to Australians as well, or Irish or whoever. *sigh* |

I'm sure that the Korean establishments didn't just wake up one day and decide to hang signs to keep away Nigerians.
Something had to happen -- and more than once -- to bring that about. |
