|
|
Im working at a language institute, and the chinese teacher (who is Korean) has asked me to tutor her english 3 times a week. She has asked how much it will cost... but I have no idea what to charge... does anyone know the going rate? Im in a smaller area of Pohang city if that makes a difference. |

Not too much! She's your first customer, and so she'll be the one to refer others to you. Make her happy! |

Keeping in mind that tutoring is illegal and NO ONE on this board has EVER done it or even thought of doing it, the rumor is that W30,000/hr outside of Seoul is the going rate. In Seoul, the rate can go as high as W50,000/hr. Or so I've heard.
But I agree with the guy who said 'go easy' but for a different reason. You work with her. She's probably in a position to help you with some things. If you are into a language exchange, then there is no money involved.
PS: I'm serious about it being illegal. You can get fined and deported for doing it. |

The minimum rate is about 30,000 won per hour if it involves little or no travel time.
That covers 2 students for each extra student I charge another 15,000 won per hour.
If there is any travel involved, buses or taxis I charge 50,000won an hour +
those were my rates when I did privates. |

You won't be making any money doing privates.
Privates are illegal. |

These all sound about right. The thing is htough, it IS illegal and if you are doing anything behind the bosses back it just might come a bite cha'. That DOES NOT MEAN you should tell your boss, that just means ...
watch out. |

Get your story straight. Tutoring for money is illegal. Language exchanges are not illegal. If you are going to live of life a crime then you need to get the story straight. See Carl Hiaason and Elmore Leonard for the consequences of not learning that basic lesson.
