My hagwon recently changed its name. I read somewhere here that it has to be reported to immigration. Any info on this, guys? Thanks |

It might be serious for you. Owners do that to ditch obligations. You might get a surprise at the end of your year. Be paranoid and look into it. |

(minus drama)he means, make a call, or trip down to the local immigration office and tell them about the name change.
ask them where you stand.
i'm not certain, but i think as long as the owner remains the same, the contract remains valid. |

More specific...OK
direct yourself to the nearest immigration office...immediately...if not sooner.
CYA...cover your ass....been there...done that....
type up a letter at your hakwon...I am sure you have computers and a printer....make the letter addressed to korean immigration...which office....stating your name and ID number...schools name and address and the new name. Very simple to do...half a page letter...make a copy for yourself and take a copy to immigration and give it to whoever you talk with getting that person's name on YOUR copy. Immigration is suppose to stamp your ID card with the new hakwon name but can't until they have proof from the school. In the mean time you have CYA. If not...it's a 500,000-1,000,000 Won fine and your name is on the blacklist EVEN though it is NOT your fault!! Go figure! |

I'm sorry, the pc went out.
Owners often sell schools to ditch obligations. It convenient and effecient. They can get rid of you that waybut not tell you about it. It might not look obvious. these sales are often to husbands wives, brothers etc.
Make sure its only a name change and not a sale. Go to immy and see if your visa is valid. Ask them directly or indirectly if the contract will still end on the same day along with recieving the same benefits.
If they dumped and you are not too far along it could be a good thing so don't get too wild. If you are 11th month, get wild.
Good luck. |
