A little too much nationalism in it for me. I remember Itaewan the last Canada Day. It was kind of embarrassing. |

Just curious, but anyone have any ballpark ideas on what the Hip might charge for gigs these days? |

Big news here is that they're opening for the Rolling Stones in Moncton in September. Tickets are going $99 each. |

I like the bit where they say that Chinese, Russian, Nigerian, and Mynmar people are subject to a security clearance! |

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of how much would it cost to pay for them to come here and play, sponsor-wise. If the Stones or another headliner were on the ticket, tobacco and alcohol sponsors will have easier arms to twist, to bankroll some of the larger costs. |

Much better! Looks good, especially the brownies!
I wonder why they singled out those particular nationalities. What about Khazakstan? or Vietnamese? |

For the sake of curiosity, let me ask one of the guys at the company across the hall from me. They had been looking into some concert bookings of big name acts for a project they wanted to get off the ground. At one time they quoted me a few prices for ACDC and others. I wouldn't doubt that they'd have checked into the Hip at the time too.
Mind you that's for events in Canada. How one would factor transportation costs and all into the equation for some mythical Seoul concert, I just don't know. But maybe we could ballpark it reasonably enough. |

I think a music festival right in the Hongdae area would be really cool. Harpeau and I talked about this recently. Do something on scale and style of the Lilac Festival every spring in Calgary. Do it in the main pedestrian area of Hongdae. Set up 2 stages and bring in some local and international bands. Have arts and crafts booths, along with kiosks set up by freelance chefs serving all sorts of their favorite cuisine. It'll also do some good for the rep of the foreign community and its place over here. |

What does Canada Day commemorate? The day Canada didnt get independence or the day Canada didnt leave the commonwealth? |

Yes. I had the misfortune of being in Itaewon last summer as well, where some of my English friends were shouted down in that Rocky Mountain Bar for not having a Maple Leaf anywhere in plain view.
