Hi guys,
As you probably know by now I'm I've just started in Incheon working in a girls middle school on the EPIK placement.
I am assuming my timetable may be ramped up at some point but at the moment I'm only timetabled to teach 3 40minute classes in a day. This is giving me more time than I know what to do with!
I came up with the idea of getting some disney films and playing them to the kids for 30mins a day a couple of times a week during their lunch break and then designing a few story boards for them to sort out to ensure they understand the basic concepts of what is going on. I then hand out the correct order the following meeting.
I've asked the school and when I explained I wanted to do this in addition to the work timetabled for me they were very keen.
The problem arises on how to get the Disney stuff for showing. My computer here doesnt have a dvd drive so it looks like VCDs are the way forward. I've been thinking of downloading them and sticking them on CDs but is struck me that I could probably buy them pretty cheaply and I don't have internet at home yet.
I know this is illegal to do but I don't know how to get round the lack of a dvd drive, at a pinch I could bring my laptop but don't know how to hook it up to a projector or anything.
Could anyone suggest a place where I can buy disney stuff, VCDs or DVDs?
Thanks,
Chris |

This question would go better on the Tech forum. It's harder to find Disney discs than Tom & Jerry or Bugs Bunny, but they're out there. I saw lots in Vietnam and in Bali. As an alternative, download some cartoons off Kazaa or somewhere.
You could play the video files on your classroom computer, or use TMPG or Videoedit or some encoder to make a VCD from a DVD. VCDs by themselves are getting very scarce and I have never seen Disney ones.

Go to www.vcdhelp.com All the tools and information you need to covert AVI files (the ones you usually download) to VCDs. They have a couple of nice walk throughs on how to do it. |

Chances are the girls will want subtitles, which complicates things considerably. Pretty sure I saw Chicken Run on VCD at Bandi and Luni's a couple of weeks ago though. |

Well the idea is we concentrate on the songs mainly and I intend to hand out storyboards which they make, simplifying the story significantly. Subtitles defeat the purpose don't they?
I'll try and get to a Walmart ASAP but i don't really know where I am and havent braved public transport yet. |
