I believe I'm correct in assuming British teachers can't reclaim their pension contributions. If so, do we have to pay it?
If yes, why??????

Brits have to pay towards pension plan - unless employer opts to pay all of it. You can only claim it back after you reach retirement age... silly, but so.

By the way, who is aware that if you work for a secondary or tertiary institution, and your employer opts for a private pension scheme, they are legally able to not offer severance pay. I was not aware of this one until too late, so watch out!

Perhaps becuase there is a reciprocal arrangemnt? Meaning pension payments here are deemed credits to your UK State pension?

I think that's how it works. A Korean working in the UK must pay social security but their social security back in Korea will be covered. The vice-versa will apply to you.
