It appears that on the job I always have a difficult time with these ladies. I'm not in the least chauvinistic, but I feel some differences toward women here and Western men. The women here stick together like glue, aren't communicative; they ignore you and can be testy. They seem to have a lot of control too, so therefore, are manipulators. Western men, on the other hand, don't like to be pushed around by women, or ignored.

Anyway, I came up with only one solution. I'm going to have to befriend them, take them out to pizza or bowling or something. What do you think?

In other words, I have to make an effort to pry into these women. They won't budge otherwise. They even seem to have a resentment towards me because of what I'd said to my boss about complaints.

In some respects I was wrong to do this, because I knew, like that guy Joe_Doufu, it'd have backlashes. But unlike Doufu, I knew that there's no way through things sometimes but by the front door.

Reminds me of Chamberlain and Hitler. "Everything's going to be fine", Chamberlain assured everyone after a diplomatic visit with Hitler. Next day, Hitler attacked Poland, and you know what happened next.

You have to take the bull by the horn, but these Korean female co-workers have always been an obstacle to my peace of mind and can gore you. Anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Hmmmm.... Confused

Almost impossible to generalize.

I've worked in many different work environments.. and sometimes the Korean female teachers would by extremely talkative and friendly.. and other places they weren't as much. (But generally they try to be).

If the Korean women at your school seem testy and ignore you.. then I'm going to guess something was spread around against you.. so they have some negative front in general. If thats the case, and it seems to be, then I'd just unfortunately be repricol with it - as its hard to break through that.

Thats one thing I learned from all my work environments. The female Koreans gossip A LOT! And since many of us aren't fluent in Korean, we have no power to stop the majority of it.

I wouldn't waste my time on them. Why would you want to make friends with a couple of petty airheads who don't know their English from their ass?

I get angry about the lack of understanding and patience that some of these Korean princesses have with foreign teachers. Granted, there are a good number of idiot expats here who don't deserve any sympathy, but I refuse to cowtow to someone who is 31 years old and still living with mommy and daddy while we're thousands of miles from our families and homes, just trying to get by as best we can.

I think their attitude is somewhat initiated by the men there, or the boss and assistant manager. They use these girls, because they know how hard they have to work and the way they can retaliate, I presume. I've a feeling the boss, or assistant, know these girls will respond how they responds, so now my beef is with them. Just recently I'd told my boss what I'd thought about unjust complaints, something they were instigating, so he and the assistant were doleful they had lost their secretive power trip.

Things are okay. I asked them out for pizza, but one said she doesn't eat pizza. I'm thinking about just offering them all these odd and ridiculous invitations, like going golfing in the mountains, rock collecting etc., things I know they'll decline, but will make them think I'm trying to be friendly, keep me less obligated.

It's a power trip, in my opinion. I think I'll take you all up on those snacks though.

I guess I was pretty lucky when I worked at a hogwan, the Korean teachers were like my sisters. I joked and laughed with them and we talked when things got stressful.

The older of the two spoke really good English and we often fought (pretend of course) like brother and sister. It was actually quite funny.

You can't make friends with all of them and the ones who can't speak English, eat with their mouths open, *beep* everything up, and are incapable of any independent thought or problem solving are best left avoided. However, when you get ones that are friendly and helpful go out of your way to let them know they're appreciated and give them your respect and compliment them on their English if they're trying and can carry on a conversation. We've got one like that and I think it undermines the boss that we give respect where it's deserved and not where it's merely expected.

I don't think the Korean teachers can really hurt us. As long as you keep asses in seats, you are too expensive an asset to fire because of bad vibes in the staff room.

Really, they can only help you, if you're on their good side. Teaching you the language, the culture, hooking you up with privates or other things. It does pay to keep on their good side. But if not, don't sweat it.

You can't make friends with all of them and the big monkey looking hairy foreign teachers that can't even bother to learn one word of Korean, don't know how to bow, don't care about their students and are incapable of thinking of anyone but themselves are best left avoided.

Hmmm..... Question

LOL!

Actually the teacher who fits my description perfectly (I forgot to mention that she is clumsy as hell, always interrupts me, and that I actually moved desks to avoid her after she spilled tea all over my desk one too many times) was telling me today how she'll miss me and that if she had lots of money she would hire me as an English tutor or... at least I think that's what she was trying to say - I can never be too sure the odd time she does venture out to speak English.
