Has anyone done their TEFL through here? TITC www.teflcorp.com
The price is only $295 for a 100 hour certificate. Kyonngi-do needs OVER 100 hours, but he said he'd give me 2 more business units to bring it up above 100 hours.
I was thinking of going the TEFLInternational route, but I kind of got turned off by the fact that the Korea branch charges double or nearly double what the other branches of their company charge. It's like $900 for the TEFLInternational one, and you get in-class on-site tutorin.
Still not totally decided, though. |

The website you linked doesn't mention an on-site course in Korea. Is there one? |

Unless you are getting actual classroom experience in the course, I'd say it's a waste of money.
Take a month, go to Thailand and do the CELTA. It's a good course, that actually teaches useful information; it's recognized around the world; and it's not terribly expensive in Bangkok.

I agree, but I don't get enough time off, and I need to get one this year to justify my pay level (so I'm told).
Yeah, I'd do the CELTA if I could. Unfortunately it's not offered in Seoul until next year, and not during a time when I can get there. |

TEFL International is quite a reputable program and they have set up in Seoul in the last couple years.
You might want to check out their program - I am sure they do observed classroom instruction - a critical part of such a program.

That is actually their old site. I found it originally, too...they directed me to their new site, which is www.teflinternational.net .
The prices have DOUBLED to 3.4 million won for the full on-site course! But that's only in Korea... it's half that everywhere else. That is why I'm considering the PELT version, which is still nearly double all of the other branches at $890.

Based on the price - and a few other things I've heard recently - I guess I'd like to reserve my recommendation for the TEFL Int'l course in Seoul.
They have a decent reputation in Thailand - but that is quite a different market. And, in Thailand, I would prefer the Text-and-Talk program.
WoW! US$3000+ seems a hefty price to pay! |

3.4 million Won for a one month intensive TEFL course?
/WAHOOOOGA! ('eyes-popping out' horn sound usually done in old cartoons)
Who...the *beep*...is paying for that, especially in a country where most directors look at that certificate and say 'meh. it's not going to make you look any younger or thinner'.
I'd go to Thailand for that. |

Actually, if I were to pay that kind of money, I'd fly to Europe, take the CELTA, and still have a million won to spare!
They told me they used to teach the course at their office, or elsewhere, but have now moved to some state-of-the-art facility out of town. The facility and the room/board is what hikes the price. But still!
I think they're mostly trying to squeeze the big bucks out of companies and larger schools who want to train their teachers -- selling packages to them for big bucks.
The newer "cheaper" course, which is part DVD and part on your own with some days in class (PELT course) is $890 and honestly sounds like a good deal for what you get. They watch 8 hours of your classes, or have you teach on-site, at one of their locations, I believe. How they can legally let you teach on-site in Korea without a special visa is beyond me! But, as I've stated via PM, I have reservations about allowing trainers to come to my school. |
