I've read a bit about them online. They seem to make good pets. There is a new pet store hear near Sunae station in Bundang called, "ZOO ZOO Land." It's got a few floors full of all types of pets: Lizards, pigs, squirrels, dogs, cats, fish, bugs, snakes, mice, and yes -- hedgehogs.

I read that you can leave them out of the cage like a dog or a cat, and litter-train them quite easily? Did your friend do that? Was it really easy to litter-train them? Their poop looks kind of gross *hhaa*

Cool. I've been around that area... are you sure they're pet stores, or are they all dogs for eating?

There are also some pet stores on Tway Gay Rho in Seoul, but mostly stinky ones with dogs and cats. Would be afraid to buy from there.

I'd rather get a ferret than a hedgehog. Did you look into ferrets yet?

Nope... not interested. Ferrets can smell.

I'm shying away from getting a hedgehog now. I really want a pet I can play with that's as low-maintenance as possible. I don't want a stinky cat with poopy litterbox smelling up my place. Gag.

I have meat eating pets. I have pirhanas, an arowana and turtles. The turtles are big and they eat live fish. The pirhanas are fun to watch when they tear flesh. I feel sorry for the feeder fish so I try to use small ones that will die quicker. You can really see the terror in the feeder fish. The arowana is beautiful but it has a large mouth and swallows the prey whole so its not too exciting to watch.

How long does a hedgehog live? Rabbits live 10 years. Maybe three years for a hedgehog?

There are pihranas at Walmart, two big ones. The top of the tank isn't covered, its unattended, there's no 'warning/don't touch; these are pihranas' sign. Anyone not knowing what they were could reach in and lose a finger.

Wiggle a finger in front of the tank and they look hungry, flinch, like 'yummy'. Idea Laughing

Don't do it.

I had one in uni -- actually my housemate bought it, not me. Hedgehogs are nocturnal, so they are up scratching and running around in their cage making noise all night, and sound asleep during the day. They're not much fun to "play" with...as in, if you take it out of the cage, it rolls up in a ball and hides anywhere it can.

The only reason to have a hedgehog is so that you can say you have one....and that's kind of a crappy reason to buy an animal.

My cousin didn't litter train her hedgehog. She just had newspaper in his cage. He did roll up in a ball though everytime you got close..Razz Maybe they aren't the most fun pet to play with, but if that's not what you want...they are cute..Very Happy

When I lived in the Czech Republic I was sound asleep one night around 4 AM with my girlfriend. As I was sleeping peacefully, my drunk Czech flatmate burst into the room with his also-drunk friend in tow, waking us up.

"That's so wierd," my girl said. "I was having a dream and you were in it." Confused

"'Oh yeah," said my flatmate. "But did we have a hedgehog?"

At which point he proceded to produce a hedgehog from his pocket. Apparently, they live wild in and around Prague and these two drunk nincompoops had managed to catch one.

We played with it for a few minutes (nocturnal, yes, and not too scared of us) and I finally convinced my flatemate to take it back to where he found it.

I know none of this helps you, Derek, but how often do I get a chance to tell a hedgehog story?

Anyone see tarantulas anywhere? What about ferrets? I would rather put up with a little stink, there's plenty of that in my apartment, than with the noise of a more vocal animal.
