Hi guys,

I was in Itaewon today and went past an amazing oil painting art stall. He was selling a really nice picture in a frame for 80,000won.

I was well tempted, but had a full day ahead of me, live in Incheon and am not too rich so I passed it by.

I'm wondering, where would be a convienient place to buy some items to spruce up my cream walls ideally in Incheon. Also when it comes to that sort of place (it was a small shop off the street) is it acceptable to haggle??

Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated, I'm not fussed about original art or anything just something nice for my room

Seeking is half the fun. Interior decor stores will have nicely framed prints for a range of prices. Stationery stores often feature fabric posters that will brighten a wall. D1ckering over price is generally not done unless youre making multiple purchases in one store, but if its a big ticket item, asking "discount?" might not hurt.

why not start by looking at authentic artwork. you can get an original print by an unknown artist for a pretty good price and keep it for life. it's a much more tree-friendly purchase then buying a mass produced print that ultimately ends up in the garbage.

if you live near a bunch of big apartment buildings check through their trash areas.

I have picked up a Monay print, an original Korean painting of birds and blossoms, a scenic park path and forest(artist unknown) and some smaller pictures.

In Suwon people would often throw out nice paintings and prints.

I try to dumpster dive. I found a really really good one for outside. Its very good. I have a half dozen sarongs I change from time to time. the Koreans like frames here, I'm the opposite. I can change art more often with less frame. If you get a print etc, you like then you can get a good frame. I recommend a rack of fish tanks. I have a shelf wth enough space of 8 5 gallon tanks. the company really likes the tanks and the fish. Kyobo book store has racks of poster art and some guys are always seeling calligraphy in the subway terminals.

There's some African guy who sets up a little art shop in the lobby underneath Geckos in Itaewon. He sells some really nifty original artwork for about 40,000W. He had one painting in particular that I hope to buy someday soon.

There is this amazing paper gallery in Insadong, where they have a huge selection of hand-made paper in various forms. Some of the paper is treated with a laquer, and the effect kind of reminded me of marbling...very lovely abstract stuff, which would make wonderful hangings.

If you walk down the main drag from Anguk station (line 3) it is in a little pavillion area off to your left...maybe 3-4 blocks down (if I remember correctly.)
