In the past, one of my 20 year old male students wrote this comparing marriage and singleness:
"After marriage, the size of the bed is different from before. And men could have another mom, because the mother and wife are a like. (talked, talked, talked...) Furthermore, It would be not the same as Sunday before marriage, man can't have deep sleep on Sunday, they have to wake up early and go on a picnic with their family.
But the skill of telling a lie and not being detected are important.This truth is the same as before."
I found his writing quite profound. |

| At least he's recognized some Freudian overtones to marriage - pretty impressive for a twenty year old. Is "Oedipal" one of the vocabulary words? |

| why is it that in Korea to do anything family orientated is considered such a big hassle?? When I have kids I'd be more than happy to wake up early to play with them. |

I believe many a failed parent has gone into child raising with good intentions such as these.
I don't believe anybody can accurately predict what kind of parent they will be. When you're sleepless, stressed, and strung out (as you will be), you're acting on instinct, and free willed best intentions have got nothing to do with it.
Apprehension and trepidation in parents-to-be is a good sign. It means they understand the seriousness and weight of the situation they are about to be in. It's the ones who think they're just going to cruise through parenthood who tend to mess it up. |
