A buddy of mine was recently hit with a "new tax" at his hogwon. Apparently, the Korean government has decided that a tax will be taken from you based on what you "should" be spending in Korea. It's like this: let's say you "should" be spending W12mil. per year based on your income, housing, etc. If you don't spend that much (how the gov. figures out how much you've spent is the catch, right?), the government will take the amount you "should have spent" from your paycheck.
Sounds like a crock of s**t to me. Anyone else dealt with this? Supposedly it applies to Koreans as well. |

New to me and I hope it's BS. But, with tax avoidance (well, blatant evasion really) rampant here, I can't help but think that something like this could happen. |

It is BS with a capital B and a capital S
your buddies boss must think he is pretty stupid to believe that crock of crap.
How on earth would they know how much money you are spending per month in Korea? There is no way to keep track of something like that.
My advice give his boss a quick kick to the nads! |
