ITWG... why are you so uptight about it.
Canadians are happy to have her to represent their country.. what does it have to do with you? Why do you feel so cheated out?
If the Canadians think that she IS Canadian, whatever her heritage.. why does it bother you?

this is not about her being Canadian.. its a debate about what does it take to be a canadian?
I mean an 18 year old girl immigrates from spain to Canada and is now crowned miss world - canada? is she really canadian? I mean in the competition she is! but is she really?

No no no no no no no. I saw that word, and hoped against all hope that there wouldn't be too many reads afterwards so I could leap into the fray.
Most Brits get their knickers in a twist about this, but in Strine it's not a nasty thing to say at all.
It's not "wog" as in "gollywog", the hopelessly offensive children's book characters...
It's "wog" as in people of Mediterranean descent, like Italians, Greeks, or even "Lebs" (people from Lebanon), and only the Aussies (and maybe Kiwis) seem to use it. Nobody believes this (I sure didn't when I first heard it) but there's actually a sitcom down there called "Wogs Out of Work."
Sure, there are stereotypes associated with "wog culture" in Australia, but it's mostly just about guys putting concrete down instead of grass (then painting it green,) saying "Fully sick, mate, fully sick," wearing gel in their hair, and talking about their Camaros.
I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here, but we shall see if my assumption proves correct... |

I concur.....do these gals still yap about "world peace?"  Although they are beautiful women, they should update the pagaent....it's starting to look like a joke with the same old bikinis, evening gowns, and their country-representative costumes. I read an article once that they want to change the pageant into a Fear Factor sort of thing...meaning girls have to brave slime and eat bugs, or something.
