Was one funny situation there though(hope he isn't reading this)..
One guy dropped it in and the guy said come back tomorrow and pick it up...
here is the convo.
IMMIGRATION: "Thank you come back tomorrow"
WAYGOOKIN "But I have a flight back to busan in 3 hours"
IM: "Ring your director and change the plan"
(5 minutes later)
WAY: "My director said you are lying...i need it today"
IM:"Sorry, but no chance, come tomorrow"
WAY:"I have no frigging money, i have no ticket, what do you want me to do??"
IM: " Sorry...that is the rule, see you tomorrow"
(Waygookin starts freaking out)
WAY: "F....k, I need it now.
IM: :Ring your director"
(Waygookin rings and comes back 2 minutes later)
WAY: " He said you are lying, talk to him"
(Immigration talks)
IM: "He said because he didn't know you have to find a way to pay for ticket back to Korea and hotel tonight...good bye"
WAY:"WTF?????"
(Waygookin leaves)
-I have no idea what happened but he had no money or credit card plus no international bank card......good luck.
So let this be warning, it does take 2 days...
BTW....I gave him about 20 000 won a few hints about getting around and changing tickets, he probably slept at the airport |

Why are people still so adamant that it can be done in one day?.There are many posts and threads warning that it takes two days. I too have warned visa-run friends that going to Fukuoka is a two-day thing. But they still are determined to come into Fukuoka at 12:00 and get it back that day  It sucks for the guy...but he should have done his homework.... don't trust what a director says.
And even if there were posts about "oh, I got my visa in one day"....it's just common sense to plan an extra day, in case red tape gets tangled in the fan, so to speak. When travelling...it's just basic intelligence to leave a cushion of time open in case of emergencies. |

That's just retarded..
First, not everyone reads this board or any other.
Second, if you were new to Korea, why the hell wouldn't you trust your director to know what was going on. It's NOT common sense if you've never done it before and have relatively few contacts as a newbie in Korea. I did my three visa runs in one day without any problems (in Osaka..2 for the same school) and I'm positive my ex-director wouldn't realise it may have changed. As a newbie, with no Korean skills, what homework could he possibly have done? Phoned immigration? Yeah, right. |

| When I did my visa run to Osaka there were about 20 of us and we all got our visa's done in one day. |

Granted...this I'll agree with. My won-jong paid for the trip and all the fees but also fronted me some cash for whatever. |

Me too, but according to a conversation I overheard, some people went to Osaksa recently, and were told it now requires two days.  |

I'll tell you what...and go ahead and flame me...
but if any person/teacher flies to korea to work...you damm sure better have some back up cash! Or you are one dumb SOB! And I wouldn't want you teaching my kids...you can't even prepare for a trip half way around the world...it shows your lack of planning when it comes to teaching! Same with doing a Visa run! Common sense should be kicking in! It does not matter if it's your first time in korea or not and "who wouldn't trust the school owner to tell you about Visa runs?" Still...be prepared! Have some cash! This is not a trip down to the local 7-11!
Bring it on...I can take it all! |

| I don't know which visa run story is better, this one, or the one a couple weeks ago about the guy who got busted at the korean consulate for having a fake degree. The guy went in to pick up his visa, and they we all like, "your degree is fake, please come with us". Don't know what happened to him after that, but I'm assuming deportation and/or fines. |

Exactly. You are going to another country! Accidents happen. No credit card or extra cash? It happens that you can get that broke, it's not a sin, but for a trip abroad, borrow enough for an emergency. The guy, to be generous, must be very green.  |

It's surprising how little some hagwon directors know about this stuff. My first visa run, they sent me to Osaka for a one day run ON A FRIGGIN' JAPANESE PUBLIC HOLIDAY! I didn't mind having to stay overnight, but fer chrissakes!
One job I applied for, I mentioned I was in the process of getting an F-2 visa, and the director says that it would be illegal for her to hire me if I were an F-2 holder. Finally I convinced her that it was perfectly legal, so she offered me the job. Of course, once I saw the contract I realized I should have just walked out when I had the chance, but it's the principle of the thing, man!
I did a one day visa run to Fukuoka last August, but I've also heard it's not possible anymore. |

When I first came to Korea, I didn't trust my director to hold my hand and take care of me and give me the right answers....why should I? I never met the guy before i came here. Hell, I came to this country with extra cash for a plane ticket home, just in case the director, whom I never met, turned out to be psycho. I'm going half way around the world, in a foreign land with different rules and language and I'm not going to blindly trust the person sponsoring me. I'm just saying it's common sense to research what you are getting into where ever you travel...even if it's a "one day" visa run to Japan. You don't have to read Dave's to learn about Korea or a Japan visa run, but you should research to possible tangles you can get into and make backup plans. Heck, the guy in the OP's original story didn't even bring extra cash or a credit card...that's very dangerous. It may only be a "visa run" but it's still an international trip!!!! Maybe I am overly paranoid, but I spent hours on the internet and talking to other foreigners, reseaching what a visa trip to Japan entails, and I'm sure glad I did that because my trip went really smooth. The internet is a beautiful thing...you can find information everywhere on it. Smart thing to do is plan extra time and cash when you travel, because the proverbial *sh*t" can hit the fan. And it seems to happen quite a bit working here. |

| Yeah it wouldn't have hurt if the guy had some money in case of an emergency. And telling an immigration official he's lying? Not a smart move. Your passport might just get ... lost. |

Funny story, but what exactly would they charge him with? Did he actually work? from the soudns of it, no. He submitted fraudulent paper work in a country that IS NOT KOREA. I'm curious to see how they could hold him in a foreign country. |
