| google audacity, you will need to download the the lame mp3 encoder as well. there's a link on the audacity web site. |

Is the music you want to convert songs purchased online? If so, they have Digital Rights Music (DRM) protection and you can't convert them to MP3s unless you use a real-time encoding program such as muvaudio.
There used to be ways around the DRM, but they have all been successfully patched.
